There comes a point when your elder parents want to keep every little junk item until it's disintegrated in their hands. I can respect that you have and still use that rusty antique set of knives, but at the end of the day, if something is so far gone that you don't even feel safe using it, get a new one.

I gave them a thorough tongue-lashing and explained the capitalist indoctrination that had led them to such consumerist thoughts. I told them that people like them are the root of the problem and that they need to... Only joking! I just told them to wash it.


It’s almost like our entire society and economy is organized around trying to make us buy new shit we don’t need!


New things give a nice burst of happiness for a bit. Fine if you can afford it. Even Dollar tree stuff does it for me.


You should join us at r/zerowaste . you don't actually have to be zero waste, but being around those mentalities really helps with taking your own 'buy more stuff' brain down a peg.
