[Postgame Thread] Wake Forest Defeats Florida State 35-14
By - JamesBCrazy
As stated multiple times during the game, Florida State was just 2 snaps away from being 2-0.
And now only 45 snaps away from 3-0.
Lose in OT to Notre dame. Get dominated by Wake.
I actually think Wake could beat ND.
I guess Wake is Great.
I miss wake is great wherever they may be after deleting their account
This year, wouldn't shock me
Wake is the most consistently underrated team in the country. They are actually a top half ACC team year after year nowadays and nobody ever seems to give them credit.
Dave Clawson deserves more recognition for the job he's done building a consistent winner at Wake (and for the program builds at all his other stops). Though I imagine Wake fans are happy that he continues to fly under the radar.
First rule of the Dave Clawson fan club is that you don't talk about the Dave Clawson fan club.
I think being a small school/small Alumni base is part of the cause.
Dave clawson is legit. Idk how more people don’t see that. Crazy to think how old their team is too
Wouldn’t even be surprised
Finally someone who gets us!
I worked this game in the video room. It was so much less close than the score implies. Wake didn’t even try to score in the fourth and forced two turnovers, then got in victory formation inside Florida States 10. This score should’ve been jacked up way higher.
We may go 0-12
I’m glad we scheduled UMass
I’m not. Nothing would be more embarrassing than losing to Walt Bell and that’s where we’re headed.
Umass is so bad I’m not worried, but they probably aren’t worse than Jacksonville state so maybe I should be worried
You’re right they’re not worse. At least UMass is FBS now and not FCS. Maybe that’ll make a loss to them sting a little less?
Either way if y’all could keep playing like this at least against us at the end of November, I’d really appreciate it.
Would you rather lose to North Dakota State University or UMass?
Honestly, North Dakota State is probably better than most "barely bowl eligible" FBS teams. I'd never want to schedule them (the risk/reward is fucked), but losing to them just isn't embarrassing.
100%! They're FCS only because North Dakota lacks population otherwise they'd probably be a power in the MAC.
Well they could probably move up if they wanted, but their position is a lot better getting to dominate FCS than being a middling G5 team.
As someone from MA who enjoys the chuckle from each UMass scorelines...definitely north Dakota state
***BREAKING: UMass beats FSU on the road, now 1-6 for season***
At least you'll get the number 1 recruit in the draft.
Corso: Not so fast!
I mean the only win I see is possibly UMass and that’s a big maybe
Funny enough UMass is saying the same thing about you.
Should have scheduled an FCS team for an easy win
Not everyone can afford 1.2 million for UCONN, best we could do is pay Jacksonville State 400k to beat us.
We'll see about that!
Oh keep going…
My only regret is that we didn't get to play them with peak Trask, Pitts, and Toney last year. Hopefully this year can be some kind of consolation.
Yea, y’all may miss out on a chance to win 10 in a row against us
Positives: the game is over
Imagine if the #1 overall recruit in the nation goes to a 0-12 team. That will be insane
Unless he’s getting a 7 figure NIL, I imagine a decomit would occur if they’re still winless into mid October.
No. CBs actually look great on horrible teams. He can grab a couple picks a year, be avoided by any team with a pulse, half-ass it in front of a 40% stadium, then coast to a Rd 1 or Rd 2 pick in 3 years.
That's true of most positions. NFL isn't so dumb as to pass on say, an RB with elite speed, great hands, and good yac just because his OL sucked in college and he got hit in the backfield a lot. They understand the game. Moreover, the combine shows the measurable. Hell, Josh Allen was a 1st rounder from Wyoming, and his comp percentage sucked.
If you're a freak athlete and show on film you can do your job, you're a 1st rounder. So may as well play for a teak you can have fun on vs an 0-12 FSU with God knows who at HC
You can have a lot of fun on an 0-12 FSU team. Never take a single hit, only play hard when you want, party with FAMU girls every week.
I’ve never heard about FAMU girls lol what’s up with that?
Dalvin Cook and Cam Akers say what’s up.
Negatives: we still have 9 more games to feel crushed
Can fans use the transfer portal too?
I think that’s what graduate school is for
Grad student at UF. Can confirm.
Damn you almost had a hell of a day today
Yeah lol not really sure how to feel about it. I mean, both teams looked really good? Which is promising but at the end of the day an L is an L
I consider that Clemson loss a W in my book.
Best way is to remove yourself from the situation. For example, I went to the gym instead of watching the second half of the game
This team is an embarrassment. I don’t even care that we are bad I’m numb to that at this point, but this has to be one of the most poorly coached teams I’ve ever seen.
NGL, I was upset when Norvell went to FSU. Thought we were screwed in our coaching search, but it obviously turned out perfectly on our end.
He seemed like a solid coach at Memphis, but he's had a horrible start in his FSU tenure. I'd say it's the players, but no D1 team should lose to JSU at home.
Hope things pick up for you guys. We know what it's like to scrape the bottom and be a laughing stock.
Pittman is looking like such a good hire
I think it shows that culture fit > home-run hire sometimes. No one wanted anything to do with our program after Chad Morris, but they failed to see that the problem wasn't the program but the awful coaching hires.
Pittman loves being here and has said this is his last coaching job before retiring in Arkansas. I expect we'll keep him around for some time.
BTW, sorry on the heartbreaker today my man. You guys took them to the brink and I didn't think that would be possible. Deserve a bump in the ranks after that performance.
Thanks! I was at the game, it was amazing. We made a few mistakes that cost us the game, but we played so much better than I though. We have a chance against UGA now. Also, thanks for taking care of Franks for us last year
Classy of wake not to run up the score… gg, best of luck the rest of the season, y’all have a good squad.
As for FSU, I think our only win is against UMass.
Not trying to be funny, not trying to get a laugh, I don't want anyone to have the worst day... but how are you guys this bad?
Just start bragging y'all broke FSU.
Alabama started it back in 2017. That Alabama vs FSU game ruined and set the football program on fire.
A bid hire followed by another bad hire instead of just giving Jimbo the facilities he wanted
Y'all are speedrunning Tennessee's demise right now.
> A bad hire followed by another bad hire
Trying to change the rules because I REALLY don't like how they're doing it, but I'm not allowed to do that
means a lot for you to notice this. there is a part of me that wants to feel some vengeance for growing up to infinite 55-0 fsu wake finals but in reality that was probably them also not running up the score.
Hope there are some bright spots for you the rest of the season too
I was at 30-0 in tallahasse and...it made my whole childhood better.
One of the commentators made a comment saying "what does this mean for wake forest, does it mean anything?"
and I'm like are we not watching the same game? I am an FSU fan but it's clear as day they aren't the FSU we once knew. Wake would've put up a real fight, if not win it, even if this was FSU from 5 years ago. Wake is good. They will shock more people this season.
Don't doubt Walt bell...you may never know!!!
I really don’t understand how the fundamentals can be so poorly coached and/or executed. I just see so many selfish, low effort, sloppy plays from our guys in every game I have to wonder what the hell is going on in practice. I can only hope at this point that Norvell can develop his recruits (if he doesn’t lose all of them) and really enact lasting change on the culture.
People don't want to hear this but our roster is still decimated. 2 coaching transitions in the early signing era plus last year's covid wash. I mean almost half of our 22 starters are transfers.
Its more than that if we are losing to JSU at home.
Staff definitely overlooked an fcs team with Florida state's talent you are correct
We traded the guy who couldn’t organize a piss-up in a brewery on the behind-the-scenes stuff for the guy who’s good at the behind-the-scenes stuff but apparently just makes it up as he goes on the actual coaching side — to such an extent he called a QB run on 4th and 2 with a QB who has a bionic leg.
WE WANT NOTRE DAME!
*Looks at their schedule*
We want UNC?
Fade me fam
2 years ago I said Jimbo dug us a hole and Willie took a shit in it.
Norvell being aggressive decided to set the hole on fire with us still in it.
Honestly... not to throw gasoline on the fire. But how the HELL is this possible. Like how the fuck can you be this bad with the name recognition and location. Its mind boggling.
Yeah, I honestly believe there are some decent high school coaches that, if you have them a week, could coach this roster to a win against Jacksonville state.
Idk.... the OL is so fucking terrible, I don't think coaching can fix their apparent lack of talent.
Several of those guys were solid fbs players that transfered to fsu, or were 4 star talent coming in. I think they are below average but should easily handle Jacksonville state
I feel like they’ve been saying that about the OL for 5 years now
One step backward, two steps back?
As a Gators fan I am physically incapable of feeling bad for FSU. But having recently survived some dark years (where FSU never missed a chance to dunk on us), I know the pain. It's rough man. Try not to let it ruin every Saturday this fall.
Thanks, bro. 🖕🏼
Haha. I understand your pain, but I also remember being mercilessly mocked when FSU was winning nattys while we were going 4-8 and losing to Georgia southern.
Willie didn’t start the fire
Ryan started the fiyah!!
Mike Norvell -- fire(d) guy!
But at least he kept them hydrated.
- Willie Taggart
I don't think they meant destroy the program.
FUCK YOU GAME DAY CREW. PUT SOME RESPECT ON OUR DAMN NAME
Seriously, wtf were they thinking?
They just see the name Wake Forest and think we’re garbage
You’re probably one of the best teams in the conference but it’s hard to tell since you played us.
If we can stay healthy I think we finish top 3 in the Atlantic
It’s between you and NC State for 2nd imo
It's true, I hate yall but you are so underrated every year despite being one of the better ACC teams pretty consistently.
Every year we’re predicted 6th or so in the Atlantic and exceed expectations. We have the third longest bowl streak in the ACC behind Clemson and Miami
Foolish of them. WF is too well coached to lose to poorly coached teams.
"FSU has talent"
Waiting for that to die
I still can’t believe not a single one of them picked Wake
WAKE IS GREAT!
Ha as soon as I saw that I said well that’s the nail in the coffin for sure. gg!
That was hard to watch. And it should have been a lot worse. Wake took their foot off the gas on offense.
Clawson doesn’t run up the score. We stopped trying on offense the last 3-4 drives
I don’t really feel anything for the team other than pity. That was some boring, slow, sloppy, incompetent football.
I AM HERE TO OVERREACT IT SMELLS LIKE 2006 IN HERE
The whole ACC is sus and we look marginally better than most of them? Clemson is struggling against GT?
You know, it kinda does feel like 2006
Please let it be 2006? :)
2006? *Excited gator noises*
I was there in 2006. Good times.
Btw is the Red Rooster still in business?
Oh yeah, 2006, when Tech scored *three fucking points* all game in the ACC championship with fucking Calvin Johnson on the team.
This FSU team has got to be one of the least clutch teams ive ever seen. Getting into the red zone? Turnover. Getting to 3rd down on a crucial stop? Penalty. Its actually just frustrating to watch.
How is everyone missing the main point? Wake Forest is now undefeated and alone at the top of the ACC Atlantic and 1/2 a game ahead of Clemson. Rank them higher cowards!
Nah I prefer to lay low, fly under the radar, and keep winning
Sure why not. I can pull for National Champion Wake Forest.
I'd like to invite my fellow noles to root for my second flair and alma mater THE United States Air Force Academy. Do you like thin air? Do you like givin' her the gun? Do you like low/no expectations? You already pay taxes, might as well cheer for us.
> You already pay taxes, might as well cheer for us.
I love this lol.
If I get to heaven (unlikely) and I see that turtle, I'm apologizing, admitting we had a toxic culture, and then I'm kicking that little assholes ass.
>and then I'm kicking that little assholes ass.
Yall ain't ready for breaking curses
Turntle will laugh while you do for he knows he has already won
Lol we suck.
The way I see it, if FSU ever makes it back to glory, I can firmly say I was able to witness FSU go from rock bottom all the way back to the top. But until that day comes, I drink.
Couldn’t agree more. My freshmen year was 2016 so I’ve been around during the worst time. I cant wait for the day where we’re back on top knowing I’ve survived all this
Can FSU go full UCONN and get paid to lose now?
IMO, the big question is whether or not Norvell can prevent this team from completely quitting right now. They can salvage maybe 4 wins, 5 with some luck, but if this team quits, they beat only UMass.
And not losing Hunter in the class. That's kinda huge, too.
Wow. Just wow.
Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night I can feel my leg...and my arm...even my fingers. The body I’ve lost...the comrades I’ve lost...won’t stop hurting...it’s like they’re all still there. You feel it,too, don’t you?
Wonder where he is these days.
I found the post announcing he deleted his account. It's been 5 years and we're still calling out his name. https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/3tr4v6/credit_to_uwake_is_great_for_following_through_on/
Maybe that FSU troll account guy was right about Mike Norvell lol
Nah, FSU fans didn't have a grasp on how little skill we have. RB and DLine is about all we have.
Yeah people still don’t get this. We are not a talented football team, and what talent we do have is too young and inexperienced to meaningfully contribute.
We still have OL issues - two starters were out today and then we lost our backup C a few drives in and had to play a bunch of guys who should not be getting meaningful minutes.
Our LB situation is awful, especially down DeLoach the first half.
Same with WR/TE, we have a bunch of guys who are JAGs outside of McClain, who is a true freshman.
DBs disappoint me because we should have talent there and I do think there are coaching/scheme issues with those guys.
Damn, that’s the response you have after getting beat by an FCS team? Norvell is in trouble…
Losing to Wake is so weird. Like I feel no animosity towards Clawson or the fanbase at all. It’s like being suffocated by hugs.
Shit, they didn’t even run up the score because they felt bad
Genuine question, does FSU win a game this year?
Maybe UMass. MAYBE.
They’ll beat a 6-2 NC State squad
Probably right. NC State only wins against good FSU teams.
FSU fan here. I'm actually not sure. I've never seen a team just get worse and worse like this. Wake is actually pretty good, but we're also a flaming mess
Yes... If that game is Capture the Flag
Suck our deacs baby
Watching the game must have felt very strange for you with that flair.
I want FSU to win every game they play in except when they play wake where I want them to lose by 7,000
That's quite a parity in feelings
The duality of man
BIG DEAC ENERGY
This team took Notre Dame to overtime
Did FSU sell it's soul for the Jameis years?
I blame Mike White at this point, the moment we became the best basketball team in the state, we should of known something was up
My favorite play of the game was Norvell telling the QB to lay on the ground so the refs could see "he's hurt"
I understand his frustration on that, he is hurt go down. Allow coach to talk to Mkz like a timeout, instead, mkz rushed out with no idea what's going on. Still a shit coach but I get the anger on that
Good for Wake Forest. Such a small school, and my father applied there and USC in SC, but he went to USC since it was bigger. He called that the biggest mistake of his life.
Despite my insistent yelling and beer consumption my wife still doesn’t grasp the significance of this win for wake forest. 3-0 bitches!
FSU bros what is going on with Norvell? I thought he was a can’t-miss hire
First 0-3 start for Florida State since 1976, which was Bobby Bowden's first year. It makes me sad what's going on at FSU, Miami and USC. 1999 FSU, 2001 Miami and 2004 USC were three of the best teams I've ever seen, and college football is more fun for me when at least one of those schools is a contender.
Norvell the next Bobby Bowden confirmed
Listen to this man!
We might be joining y’all soon.
Why do I keep watching football
This is not your father’s Florida State, that’s for sure.
FSU fans, how are we feeling about Norvell?
"I'm just here to date quarterbacks and hand out roses"
\- Norvell, probably
In over his head with no idea how to fix the problems. Our fanbase has no patience either so instead of giving him time we will fire him and try to hire a flashy coach that will just either be boom or bust
Honestly get a p5 proven offensive coordinator and let him call plays. Often time the first two drives of the game are scripted in the week before. The first 2 drives were incompetent. Idc who the QB is but you can't yank him out after 1 drive it kills any sort of confidence. Also don't get me started on Norvell calling a 4th n 2 QB power....with a QB with one fucking leg. Also can we please put the QB under center on runs, besides winning that is what I miss most about Jimbo's offense. Let the rb get momentum downhill
You cannot fire him, dude.
You don't have the money and no coach worth a shit would look at the situation over the past 5 years and giving coaches no time to figure it out and think they need to sign up for that.
Norvell will be coach @ FSU in 2022 or some reeall bad shit has happened.
If you don't think there is some rich boomer who is basically on his death bed looking at his beloved FSU Football team in shambles not willing to pay that 30 Million for Norvell's buyout with his fraternity brothers from the class of 1949 than you just don't know college.
>You don’t have the money
I’ve heard this so many times on Reddit before coaches get fired. I don’t know if he will get canned but if they go 1-11 it’s surely on the table
Team is poorly coached, makes obvious mistakes and look overwhelmed every week. I was optimistic for him coming into the season but he just looks in over his head now.
I wish the guy Wake_is_great was still here to see this
Happy deacon noises.
Wake is indeed Great!
“We’re only 2 plays and a blowout away from being 3-0”
- FSU fan, 2021
Wake is great!
FSU will not win a game this season.
Florida state is cursed.
Hey, FSU, what football god did you anger?
Not seeing much difference now from when Taggart was coaching. Tons of penalties, terrible play calls and no cohesion. Put Milton in and let him stay in. Offense flows way better with him than Travis imo.
Look, I'm starting to have concerns with Norville right now. He's forcing Travis to run a read offense and Travis clearly can't run it. We have 3 good running backs, he should run the triple option or even the Wing T or something that plays to our strengths instead of trying to recapture the glory of his Memphis days.
B-but my SOS
Florida's New Big Three: Florida, UCF, FAU.
Who's the head coach at FAU again?
Oh I know baby
our game yesterday didn’t count bc our starting quarterback was injured during the game. do not examine further
Will FSU ever be back to where they were?
Probably eventually. Gators were in a big funk after Urban, but with Mullen were consistently in the NY6, and are really damn close to being a CFP contender.
Oy vey. Killing themselves on penalties. Making stupid plays. Lots of talent, Norvell and the rest of the staff need to put it all together.
