There is now a Twitter account dedicated to shitting on Mike Sanford.
Those stats they are dropping are rough. Would be a shame if someone still had to face the 2 best defenses on their schedule.
I haven’t compared stats but I can’t believe he’s worse than Brian Ferentz. It’s just we have an elite defense to keep us in games
I don’t know whether this is true and I refuse to research it, but I agree.
Minnesota’s last 2 games will have combined scores of less than 25 lmao
Haven't seen him call one good game this year. Any sort of running success has come from us just being bigger and better than some average d-lines.
PJ's a paradox to me. He's very innovative and willing to do some heterodox things with his program, but in other ways he's very conservative and unwilling to make difficult decisions:
1. Benching Tanner Morgan, even for a few series or quarter.
2. Mixing up play-calling responsibilities (i.e. letting Matt Simon call plays like the Auburn game) - Ohio State mixed up DC responsibilities midway through the season, and they have way more to lose than we do.
3. I'm very curious what made PJ fire Robb Smith but stay with Sanford here. Our program is at a much different point now with more at stake, nobody was really expecting him to kill it during that Robb Smith year.
4. Did I mention benching Tanner Morgan?
On Robb Smith, he got us blown out in like 5 consecutive games. I hate Sanford too, but the offense hasn’t lost us that many games yet. PJ. was also in year 2 and probably was more receptive to quicker changes compared to today.
Ciarrocca is literally a fucking analyst at WVU god we need to just cut Sanford and go get Kirk back
Kirk left twice in 3 years. He doesn't want to be here.
Kirk Ciarroca is looking for a job I believe. Gotta think Fleck reaches out to him after the season
how do we get one of these for Matt Millen?
Guys I think me and my dad are bad luck. We have been to 5 MSU away games now:
2011 Notre Dame (L)
2016 Maryland (L)
2018 Indiana (W)
2019 Wisconsin (L)
and now 2021 Purdue (L)
I’m the same way for Ohio State with my dad.
1997 @UM (L)
1998 MSU (L)
2001 Outback Bowl (L)
2004 @ NW (L)
2014 VT (L)
2016 @PSU (L)
2017 @Iowa (L)
Please reach out if you’d like to host me and my dad the next time the buckeyes are in town.
I am undefeated at the B1G Championship game though with my friends in 2017, 2018, and 2019!
So would you and your dad be interested in returning to the big house in little over two weeks
Depends on what you’re willing to offer
What’s the next game you’re attending? MSU vs Ohio state?
And go to Ohio *voluntarily*? Fuck no, the next one we were thinking about would be @Illinois next year
I’d like to buy you a ticket to the MSU/PSU game
Thats a home game this year
This season? Penn State is a home game and we go to all the home games anyway. If you mean next season then fuck it sure, if the pattern holds it'll be the next W anyways
Lol nvm then
Thank you for your service
We don't want to be here either. Some of us are just stuck here 😭
Bro if you need a place to stay for Happy Valley next year hmu
I'm sure I can wrangle some tickets for you in Columbus in a few weeks if you're interested.
It's funny though, I've never been to a loss away from Ohio Stadium.
1996 Notre Dame, 2005 Michigan, 2006 Texas, 2013 Northwestern, and the 2014 Big Ten Title Game.
2013 OSU NW game broke my heart. Do you remember the weird sky before the game? It was like on fire. I took a bunch of pics but never backed them up so long gone.
We actually missed the beginning of the game. We were staying downtown in Chicago. My brother and his wife had come up to see us as well and we probably didn't leave ourselves enough time to travel. Especially once it started raining and the cabs became scarce and then the train was delayed 😂
It was a great atmosphere and game once we got there though.
Come to Madison whenever the Spartans even pls
I hope you guys enjoyed our campus and Ross-Ade
Thanks man, I did like your guys campus it's nice. The food delivery robots blew my mind
I’m currently 500
2010 Michigan (W)
2016 MSU (W)
2017 Indiana (W)
2018 Michigan (L)
2018 PSU (L)
2019 OSU (L)
2021 Rutgers (W)
I took my dad to like 5 purdue games, we're both alumni... First was the rose bowl, most recent was 2018 illinois where we finally won.
In my, albeit, short visiting game experiences I’m 0-2
2019 Michigan (L)
2021 Purdue (L)
Mel Tucker said they’ll be making changes to address our frustrating bend but don’t break defense. I’ll be interested to see what those changes are this weekend, especially since Maryland can pass.
Unless they go and get new corners I can almost promise they aren’t fixing this in a week. If we give up less passing this week it’s because our pass rush gets home not because our corners who have been bad all year are suddenly better after a week of focusing in it
I’m assuming the changes (if any) are going to be more schematic and game planning in nature rather than personnel.
Whats that sound? It's the... DELTA PACKAGE
Frankly might want to keep the bend not break....since our offense breaks in the end soon.
Fortunately MSU is not playing September Maryland so… y’all should be set.
Lots of big games to be played, but I feel like we're trending towards Ohio State - Wisconsin again.
Looking forward to Ohio State - Northwestern again in 2022.
And another year of second place Iowa. Fucking sigh.
I was/am hoping for Iowa. Get Purdue and Iowa this year and revenge for 2017 and 2018 in the span of 4 games.
We have to win out and Wisconsin has to drop a game against Nebraska… lol
I trust Nebraska to make the game very close and also find some way to not win. No matter what wisconsin does Nebraska will find a way to not capitalize
I’m terrified about that one.
Plus we can drop one to Minnesota, Purdue to Ohio state and long as you win out, youre golden.
damn I'm not even confident about winning out, not a chance Nebby beats Wisco.
If you would like out of the rut, I am sure Darrell Hazell, Master Purveyor of Perspective, is available.
Was really hoping for a Minnesota matchup in Indy (big Fleck fan). Then they played bowling green. *But* then Iowa fell off and they crawled their way back and looked like a they had a shot. Then they played Illinois.
I wanted Iowa, for 2017 reasons. But if they're not I wanted Minnesota or was hoping for a while that Purdue had enough juice to get there. Basically, I want all Big Ten teams to play in the title game before Michigan.
Hahah yes that was deinfitely part of my motivation to root for the gophers too
Man, I'd forgotten that. Bring back the turf guy!
It’s most likely you guys in the East.
There’s an outside chance I think that you limit MSU’s run game with that D-line and beat them, then we come out with a magical fire under our rear ends and somehow pull the upset. But that’s grasping at straws at this point.
Pretty sure Stroud will throw for a season high amount of yards against us.
Michigan still scares me. I have Post Traumatic Cooper Syndrome.
Whats torture to me is being on the opposite side of that fence. I am just barely old enough to remember the peak of the Lloyd Carr era when we were the dominant team most of the time. Add in having a Boomer father who spoon fed me with tales of the good old days during the Ten Year War. I know he went to a game as a teenager in those days down in Columbus, and we pulled off the win and he had people throwing stuff at his car with Michigan plates all the way back home.
Are you me? First Michigan teams I clearly remember were 2002 and on. Dad went to Michigan during the schembechler era. I heard all the stories and have all the good childhood memories of us beating up on OSU. And now....this.
Moreso 2000 for me. But I can definitely relate. My dad wasn’t an alumnus though, however my aunt is.
I turned 18 in 2000. The games I remember from growing up are all Cooper. For me, it won't ever be enough. 100 in a row would feel just as good as 2001 did.
I’m the exact same age wise. Grew up assuming Michigan would win The Game until Tressel came along. Hell I remember the rumblings growing for Lloyd Carr after his first two years were sub par and that was after beating heavily favored OSU twice.
Well hopefully things turn and you start to remember the Cooper days a bit better lol
I like straws.
We match up really well against MSU. The front 4 should be able to slow down Walker, and MSU is just terrible against the pass, and Ohio State has the most dangerous passing attack in the conference by far.
Hello purple voodoo my old friend
The least favorite game on the schedule every year no matter how bad or good they actually are
Word on the street is that Mel Tucker is getting a big fat extension. Hell yea baby!
Feels dirty to root for Northwestern... but here we are
Rico Beard (MSU insider) on 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit is saying MSU is giving Tucker an extension and a raise that will be near $7m, nearer to $8m per year including incentives.
If Purdue wins this week , how could the committee deny a team that had beaten 3 top 4 teams a place in the playoff?
I don't think this is totally serious, but if Purdue wins this week, the Big Ten might not make the playoffs unless a Michigan team wins out.
Committee isn’t ready for 10-3 Wisconsin in the playoff 😈
Went to Lincoln last week. Surprised by the pure ambivalence toward Iowa and the pure disgust toward Colorado (among older fans).
Big Ten has been trying to manufacture rivalries since the realignment to West and East (i.e. Maryland vs. Penn State). Nebraska vs. Iowa seems like it should become a bigger rivalry, but it feels forced at the moment. The true rivalry week games are:
Michigan vs. Ohio State
Minnesota vs. Wisconsin
Indiana vs. Purdue
Illinois vs. Northwestern
With the rest filling out the schedule. Given time, it can become a true rivalry like the above games. Unlike the East, which has a bigger problem with rivalry games outside of The Game
Yea I’d say our rivalry with Iowa is pretty big due to deciding the division a lot of years. I wouldn’t say I care as much about Iowa as the axe though that’s for sure. I think I respect Iowa more.
Personally, I think the opposite that the rivalry is not very big, due to being so incredibly one sided. I think Iowa has won twice in the last decade? And once during covid, which barely counts. I have too much respect for Wisconsin to talk shit in a rival-like way, unlike Nebraska or Iowa state that I feel in my blood
Yea I mean it’s been maybe a little more skewed to one side results wise but the games are almost always hard fought and close. Again I respect you guys so I too wouldn’t talk shit in a rival like way, but winning the game and trophy does mean a lot.
Wisconsin has 3 trophy cases that perfectly fit our 3 trophies that players have to walk by everytime they leave the lockerroom to go to the field so I imagine it’s very motivating to see one of those cases empty. Luckily the Nebraska trophy has never left and the axe has left only once in the last 17 years
Id throw Minnesota vs Iowa and Iowa vs Wisconsin on there myself
The Triangle of Hate demands blood.
Right, I was just listing games actually played on rivalry week
He said "rivalry week," so with Minnesota vs. Wisconsin already there, neither one of those really "count" towards what he was discussing.
Woof misread that one. I was gonna say I think he’s missing a fair bit of these
Agree with the forced rivalries. Though I went to Iowa City in 2017 and a bunch of people were gleefully shitting on Nebraska like the hate was real.
The haw-keye are a contentious people with plenty of hate to spread around. They can bring themselves to hate Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa State as rivals simultaneously. What's adding one more like Nebraska to the mix?
Source: am expert on a people hating multiple schools simultaneously. We hate Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and all the other D1 hockey state schools in Minnesota simultaneously with ease.
We don’t hate Wisconsin but we respect them. Most of us have no strong feelings about Minnesota one way or the other, although some older Iowa fans feel strongly about you.
We don’t give AF about Minnesota honestly. Not even in our top 3 rivalries and I might honestly put northwestern as 4
I had no idea how much people hated Iowa.
We here in the West of the Big Ten can be pretty contentious folk.
They hate Northwestern too.
Do they actually, or is that in the same way Wisconsin does where they hate the voodoo Fitz has bottled up at Ryan Field?
We don’t actually hate Northwestern, we just hate losing to Northwestern.
I hate northwestern a lot more than minnesota
Don’t forget about Michigan vs MSU
They specifically said rivalry week
Ah my bad
I don’t even know if I would put Illinois/Northwestern here. I live in Champaign and I’ve never met anyone who gives a damn about NW; their big games are Michigan and Wisconsin
Penn State v Iowa was/is shaping up to be a rivalry game. The B1G sucks for not letting it continue.
To Nebraska, I don't see them as rivals, they just irritate me. Having moved to Omaha a few years ago made it so much worse. Always hearing about how they don't belong in the B1G, how this is the year they're going to the Natty, how much better than Iowa they are this year, etc.
They're not rivals, my experience with their fans sucks so I don't like them.
We don’t like Iowa. But we hate Colorado and they hate us.
Illinois fans hate Iowa too, but that’s more of a basketball thing than football. It would be amazing to beat them in football too though
I certainly don’t like Illinois bball fans after last year. Don’t really hate the team though
I was in Lincoln for our game and the absolute disgust toward Texas and Colorado was great to hear about.
Everyone in the big ten hates Iowa I'm pretty sure
If you were at the last game at Boulder, you’d understand. We were *literally* laughed off campus. A frat had basically set up bleachers in front of their house to point and ridicule the Husker fans leaving the stadium. Multiple times my group had shit thrown at us.
Fuck the Buffs
I'm excited for the Purdue Ohio State game. Coming into the season, we all penciled this game in as a loss, but with how the two teams have been playing, it could get exciting. It's a pretty low-stakes game for Purdue given the fact that they're already bowl eligible and that they need a ton of help to make the title game even if they do win out. I'm not expecting a win, but I think it'll be a fun watch.
You wouldn’t need too much help. You need the winner of if the axe to lose another game. So Nebraska over wisconsin or Iowa over Minnesota
Minnesota over Wisconsin seems unlikely with how good Wisconsin's run defense is and putting my faith in Nebraska seems like setting myself up for disappointment.
lol ok that’s fair then. I’m with you on Nebraska
This was an unprovoked attack. Entirely accurate, but an unprovoked attack nontheless.
attack or wisdom. any faith in nebraska always leads to disappointment for the past 20 years
Think they’d need Minnesota to beat Wisconsin as we have the tie breakers over Iowa and Purdue already
They lost to both Minnesota and wisconsin already. So they’d need them both to have 3 conference losses. One of them is guaranteed 3 due playing each other. So just needs the winner of that to lose another one
Jahan Dotson is the best WR in the country. Please respect our decision, we will not be taking questions at this time.
Man does the big ten have some amazing receiver talent this year
Wonder what the record for most first round receivers by a conf is in one year (gotta be a mix of bama and lsu players for sec I’m guessing)
Should be 4 minimum this year I think
Olave, Wilson, Dotson, and Bell are your four I’m guessing?
Fryfogle should go pretty early too
> Man does the big ten have some amazing receiver talent this year
Is it possible to learn this power?
Yes the blight of the forward pass can be learned and mastered by heathens who wish to do so.
Fortunately Father Kirk knows better and we do not partake in such fuckery
3 last year for sure and I think 3 the year before just between Bama and lsu. That’s off the top of my head
Jefferson and chase from lsu
Waddle, Jeudy, smith, ruggs from Bama
Treylon Burks from Arkansas should also go in the first
He's the best WR in college history ^^except ^^those ^^that ^^were ^^better
But have you seen Bell vs Iowa?
Please refer to the second part of my statement.
There’s a good chance David Bell matches Dotson’s season totals against us on Saturday. Out of pure spike and Purdue dark magic
David Bell already has more yards than Dotson and Bell has played one less game.
As in… gets **all** of Dotson’s totals **in** one game
Oh gotcha. Yeah I could see that happening
It’s been a rough year for RB depth in our room, the season beginning top 3 are all done. I feel gutted for Chez. Braelon has been our best back though and it’s time for him to step up even more. Third year Julius Davis is who I’ve been wanting to succeed so badly since he arrived and I think now might be his chance to step up.
I really hope you are right about Davis. I think all Badger fans have just been waiting for something from him.
Yea I dont know if he’ll be good or not but he’s going to get his chance to now it looks like
Penn state bad
First of all, how dare you
Second, Michigan bad
You make good points.
I trust you will prove my point in a couple weeks
But if losing to Ohio State means you’re bad, and Penn State has already lost to Ohio State, doesn’t that = Penn State bad? 🤔
It's a spectrum
This is how you rebuttal
Where did you study law?
I’m worried the injuries have decimated the team beyond repair. I really wouldn’t be surprised if MSU ends up 8-5
So many broken hands. What the fuck are they doing up in EL
They just keep doing it!
I think we can still hang with Maryland this weekend and I'd imagine we're competitive for our bowl game. I think we drop the OSU game, not sure how I feel about the Penn State game yet (they've got some head scratching performances).
I'd go 9-4 or 10-3 as more likely tbh.
If that’s true, why are msu fans so upset with the CFP rankings? Honest question, if you think the first 8 games were smoke and mirrors, and they think something along those lines too, doesn’t that mean the ranking is correct?
It's not that the first 8 games were smoke and mirrors, it's just that the team available to us right now isn't the same one that started 8-0
Because the rankings should be based on performance to date, not anticipated future performance
Bro did you even read the comment? How did you get that our team is really banged up right now = all those wins are smoke and mirrors lol
I don’t follow msu that closely, are all those injuries new? I don’t remember anyone going down in our game
Per this article it doesn’t seem like you’re down that many guys? Just a couple playing banged up, but it’s November that’s true of any team. https://amp.freep.com/amp/6346346001
Nailor (very good starting WR) went down somewhere around the end of the 1st half vs you guys, looks like he broke a couple fingers. Charles Brantley (CB that gets lots of playing time, made game-winning INT vs you guys) went down with what appears to be a season ending injury vs Purdue, Matt Carrick (solid backup OL) went down with a season ending injury suffered in practice before UM game, Jarrett Horst (starting OL) may or may not even be with the team anymore, played vs UM but not Purdue. A few impact players in a 2 week span
On top of the injuries, one of the main insiders on the paid boards said Horst left the program so there's that too. He did later delete the comment, not sure if that's due to the info ending up being wrong or just that he wasn't actually supposed to reveal that
My thoughts on some of this weeks matchups
* Michigan State comes back for a big win over Maryland likely covering the spread.
* Ohio State won't loose to Purdue (sorry Spoilermakers) but won't cover
* [email protected] Iowa and [email protected] Penn State are both going to be close, I think give the advantage to the home team in both matchups but if both road teams win I won't be surprised.
David Bell is gonna mop the floor with our defense. Thank God the Purdue defense also bad. Should be a shootout
Purdue's defense is actually sneaky good. 16th in scoring defense (6th in Big Ten) and 26th in total defense (5th in Big Ten). 3rd best pass defense in the Big Ten too.
Just keep him out of the end zone multiple times and we should be able to survive
Expecting 200 yards for sure tho
Purdue’s run game is horrific. I feel good doubling Bell all day with Burke and a safety, and daring Purdue to beat us with their other receivers.
He's a great receiver, don't get me wrong. But he's also had several games this season where he's been a non-factor. Our safety's stink, but we have two really good corners. I don't see him doubling his weekly average like some of you are predicting.
Despite all those yards, he's only got 5 TD catches this year. Three of which were against UConn. Again, great player, but no need to be fatalistic.
I’m hoping we can hold Purdue under 400 total yards. David bell will probably have 200+ receiving and 2tds but if we can limit our turnovers and actually score tds in the redzone I think we’ll be ok. Our offense will put up over 500 yards it’s just a matter of turning those yards into points
Our defense is actually pretty good this year. Turns out Bob Diaco is fucking terrible
I think the Michigan/Penn State matchup thread was interesting. The votes were very close, but there was a lot of Penn State chest-thumping in the thread I noticed. I don’t know if it’s warranted when Penn State has lost to Iowa (one of the most anemic offenses in the conference), Illinois, need i say more? And wasn’t Maryland/Penn State tied 14-14 in the fourth and a pick six padded the score some?
Like don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s a lock by any means for Michigan (and understand the importance of Clifford’s health), but given the past few games I was a little surprised by the confidence coming from the Penn State crowd.
As a neutral fan Clifford got hurt against Iowa if he’s healthy they easily win. There’s an argument for him not being fully healthy against Illinois too.
Luckily it’s decided on the field this weekend.
After the first 3 weeks of the season, if you had told me that OSU would be the last B1G team still undefeated in conference play at this point in the season, I wouldn't have believed you.
I think everyone else would’ve
Yeah, OSU isn't some charity case team. They're loaded with talent. You could compose a team of the best Big Ten players at every position not playing on OSU and it would still be less talented than OSU per 247
There is a not insignificant portion of our fan base that is going mental this season. Seeing calls for Day to be fired or at least give up his playcalling duties.
Uh who exactly do they want to replace Day? Frost?
Hell if I know. They just think Day isn't getting it done and we need to move on.
Every team has idiot fans, but Michigan and Ohio State seem to have more
Indiana going for that first Big Ten win in front of 12,000 fans should be a good one.
If Northwestern could play Wisconsin as hard as they play Iowa that would be greattttt.
I’m finding myself feeling legitimately relieved when my team doesn’t play on a given weekend.
Can’t suffer yet another agonizingly close lose when you have a bye lol
