This guy really lives an hour and a half away from their job

pugesh

I theoretically live 2 hours away from work, but hey they pay me to go there, and really fucking well too. Most of these people just hate their job and have made absolutely terrible life decisions that resulted in them getting said shitty job. I frequently hear exaggerated horror stories from people who literally work the exact fucking same job as I do, same hours, same pay. People just really have trouble coping with the fact that society needs work to be done to function

chopperhead2011

This is way more common than you think. Might not even be that far and the commute time is doubled or even tripled due to traffic because of shitty scheduling.

tns22x

It’s actually 15 minutes, but he’ll start taking an hour and a half if they’re paying him for the commute

TheCaribbeanViking

Reddit moment

KanzakiSanNaW

Couldnt you just purposefully take a long time getting to work then

Micky_Whiskey

I have magical powers to make anyone into a sexy catboy.

RoyTheIdiot

I don’t know about you guys, but I kinda want to be a sexy catboy.

PaladinOfPelor

Somehow I doubt that

Wayward_heathen

So quit.

KanzakiSanNaW

What about catgirl

Micky_Whiskey

No one wants that.

possiblyis

Wrong

Micky_Whiskey

You definitely want a catboy, you just don’t know it, yet.

patihchan

What does this have to do with the post?

Micky_Whiskey

How does it not?

patihchan

I dont know why you want to turn someone into a catboy

Alex_the_Weirdman

What

Micky_Whiskey

Huh?

gordo65

I would love this, because I’m sick and tired of being a butt ugly catboy

airborneisdead

You guys don't?

Abuses-Commas

Eh, my job can have the 5 minutes it takes me to wake up and boot my computer, as a treat

americanjetset

Pro-tip: Just leave your work computer on; save you a min or so on that commute.

rkroll17

A lot of jobs do pay for the commute like contracting work.

acmemetalworks

Spent most of my life working for contractors. I've seen them bill clients for the trip in certain circumstances, but never pay for my commute from home.

rkroll17

Some let you clock in while traveling if you change where you work frequently

Wayward_heathen

Yeah, I worked for a utility contractor for 6 years and we would try and get paid from time we left hotel to job site as the company chose our hotels and sometimes they were a good distance from the line..:We rarely won that battle lol I imagine you’re talking about other types of contracting and I’m threading needles, but just sharing my experience.

dragonsfire242

I think “a lot” is a pretty generous estimate

rkroll17

*some

Posted by U/n-word_lover No adult would pick that as their username. This is as close as I think we’ll ever get to definite proof that these are a bunch of kids that like whining.

Prizmagnetic

I think it was r socialism that did a survey that showed this as well

MemeMastAssBlast

u/n-word-lover , what a mature name, hopefully he isn't a child (:

TreeEqualsPaper

You ain't gotta say anything just sayin'

Sheyren

This would encourage employees to live farther from work. To get to work, slower and less efficient means would be preferred, and cars would end up even more utilized than they are now. That would certainly exacerbate our climate issues, for one thing. Also, the employees who don't get paid for their commute would get a lovely increase in traffic.

MarvelousOxman

Agreed. I might as well take the 3 hour scenic route to and from work everyday while I'm at it.

Sinburner

Does... Does he not know that you can claim commute time on your taxes? Like, that's a thing, the company does really deal with it but you can get a reduction on taxes. Shit, my bro saves a few thousand dollars on that, with meals included!

Steel-and-Wood

I'm at work now and thinking about what I have to do at work tomorrow, does that give me double time?

Divniy

Assuming I'm not gonna force WFH after covid shown IT companies it is no less productive then time spent in office.

ZePolitaxed

IIRC, in France it’s mandatory if your commute >= 2h a day.

AuAndre

If a company wants to do this, they can. If they don't want to do this, I dont think it should be mandatory. And I live about an hour away from where I work. Also, salary sort of fixes this issue? Just calculate your per hour wage including the commute, and determine from that If the salary is worth it. Also, remove the price of commuting alongside taxes. Though, that could be different, as apparently you can claim commuting on your taxes. (Which seems backwards ngl. Basically you pay less to maintain the roads if you drive on the roads more? Shouldn't people who drive more have to pay higher taxes to pay for the roads?)

i_am_notthewalrus

We should just clock in when we go to sleep since we aren't conscious so it isn't free time.

DA-ZACHYZACHY

To anyone who supports this notion: Why should you get paid more by a company than someone else simply because you live a bit further away?

Trenix

I agree though. I work from home now, so I don't have to worry about this anymore. However my wife drives 15-20 minutes and on toll roads. They don't pay for any of it. If she didn't take the toll roads, it'd be far longer.

kichu67

To answer many comments supporting this, I would like to point a few things. This will affect small business owners than large corporates. I've known few buisness that provides pay for commute or provide free accommodation nearby with free food. The reason they do is because their profit margin allows them to and they want to retain the labour. But I honestly don't know what will happen by forcing every business to do.

simberry2

Great. Let me move to NYC. Oh wait, there and back is 8 hours? What a wonderful idea. “What’s your job” “Oh, I just commute to and from places, just driving around”

chopperhead2011

Hey this wouldn't be a bad idea if people wouldn't abuse the FUCK out of it.

acmemetalworks

This would cause more injustice in the world by widening the gender pay gap, as it's been shown that men commute farther.

Entire-Job7656

They should pay you while you sleep to because that's not free time. Jesus these people

llliiiiiiiilll

Serious question.. what percentage of communists/socialist Reddit material is coming from 50 cent army / or some kind of sophisticated Chinese bots? I'm having a hard time believing that there's really that many Americans that are this stupid as to support antiwork / DSA type ideologies

Mcbarleythe3rd

You’d be surprised.

Micky_Whiskey

I agree with that. I should be paid anything it is dedicated to a company. Fuck them.

TheSexyGrape

Ngl they have a point

MakeCheeseandWar

Thanks for the insight, u/n-word_lover

Unzeen80

Takes you three hours to commute back and forth to your retail or food service job?

SeniorWilson44

The sentiment isn’t too far off from mainstream. It’s the sub that it’s posted in that makes it bad I think.

gameragodzilla

To be fair, I do hate commuting so I bought a house close to my office. Before everything shut down and now I’m working from home which has no commute whatsoever.

6point3cylinder

It’s on the employee to consider commute times when negotiating pay. That’s where it is factored in unless there is expressed pay for commute time.

gordo65

If they’re going to pay me for my commute, then I’m going to bike to work. I would absolutely love to get paid for 2 hours a day just to ride a bike.

Alex_the_Weirdman

If they’re gonna pay me for commuting to work, then I would drive slower than my local railway service

Jamesr792

Nah clock in when you go to bed early on a work night

seanee111

All that for more than likely a desk job, lmfao. I would love people to come work with me, wearing heavy ass boots and tons of PPE, descending 700 feet into the earth, riding another 2 miles underground on an uncomfortable and crowded mantrip and mining coal for 8 hours a day.

DontwantaFairOne

Update: they work at home & slowly walk to the other room

Evening-Raccoon7088

In Israel employers pay a fixed amount for your commute which I think is a more reasonable solution.
