"Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, cause I’ve worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time." u/CristiniLamborghini
Anyone going live today (Brian Entin or JB) that anyone knows about?
They need to up the reward money. Make it $100,000 and you’ll find him in a few days.
Maybe reddit awards will be enough incentive.
Thoughts on former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer? She seems very sure of a lot of things. The most significant being that Brian is alive.
Opinions are like assholes....
I've been a part of this sub for a while now. I recall mods removing messages that said 'good morning' in the beginning because it was 'tasteless'. And now this, with the less than tactful awards being (allegedly) profited off of, and the derisiveness about banning over use of a relevant hashtag?
Here's my point: mods, I get that you're doing your best, but at a certain point you need to come forward and just drop the unabashed micromanagement. We're all guilty when it comes to not doing things right the first time around, but it is your responsibility (and I personally believe your duty to GP) to make this right and acknowledge that we are now moving backwards from the original reason this sub was even created. To honor GP, and to help find BL. And also to say good morning.
I really think people need to spend time looking into survival methods to understand how Brian Laundrie can evade being found this long... The following is a list of supplies that a person can carry on their back while hiking..(please excuse the format and that this comes out one long paragraph, that's what Reddit always does to my posts). 1. One person tent - easy to carry, it's portable and fits in most hiking packs. It is not super comfortable but it keeps the bugs and rain off at least. They are easy to conceal as they sit close to the ground and can easily be covered with branches. 2. Filtration straw - It is basicly a straw with several filters in it to filter out toxins in water sources. It is emergency use only, but as long as you can find a body of water that is not completely horrible, you have water and don't need infinite water bottles to carry. 3. Portable cooker - a small one is roughly the size of a small bowl, the one i carry even fits a propane canister in it. I have cooked off one canister for several camping trips. 4. Sleeping pad - most self inflate, and at least provide some space between the ground and your body, very portable. 5. Portable solar charger - most fold down to the size of a notebook, and can fully charge something like a cell phone completely as long as there is decent sunlight. 6. Flashlight (chargeable), can charge flashlight with solar charger, allows you to move about at night and remain hidden during the day.. 7. Fire starter - does not need fuel, 1st year survivalist likely know how to start a fire with a flint striker. 8. Sleeping bag- for obvious reasons...
Hunters when doing long hunting trips for weeks, will often drive ahead to their hunting sites and do supply drops. It is easy enough to put can goods in a plastic container and bury it underground to keep animals away from it. You can set these drops out anywhere this way without fear of someone finding them sitting around in the woods. You don't need to spend time hunting and fishing and take the chance of being seen doing that. (This includes storing water bottles as well) I am not completely solid with the timeline of events, but i believe that roughly between September 1st, and the 11th, he was out setting up stashes of food and supplies so that he can live off grid for some time. He could have planted supply boxes in different camping locations and has been jumpting between sites so as to not be sitting in one location all the time. Whether he is in the Florida preseve or the Appalachin mountains, etc.. it does not matter. You CAN avoid things like thermal cameras, it is not infalable technology. Thermal cameras do not literally detect body heat, they detect the infrared shift from body heat. You can simply hold a piece of transparent plastic between you and a thermal camera and it will block your thermal signature. A tent can block a thermal signature. (Though the tent might heat up enough to reveal a shape on a thermal camera, which is easy enough to disguise by placing branches over the tent). Tents easily come in camoflauge colors,( i own one), meaning if you are not looking directly at it, your eyes are not going to pick it up easily. I think it is very likely that BL left his car at the Florida preserve to throw people off the trail, and he is likely staying somewhere else. It does not take a really smart person to survive off grid. He would only have needed time to drive out to his real location to drop supplies, he likely picked up a pre-paid smartphone and paid months in advance of call and internet time, and only needs the solar charger to keep a constant power source for it. I spent 6 days in the forests of Oregon in July completely comfortable, i did not have a car and i had every comfort from home. Hell, i streamed Hulu half the time i was out there. I have spent most of my life behind computers and have only been interested in camping and survival methods in the past year and i can successfully live off grid for months. Supposedly BL has known camping and survival methods for years. Chances are he had the majority of the gear i mentioned above sitting in the van he shared with Gabbie.. if i were the police, i would be comparing all of the items that were seen or known to be in the van with what was still in there when the police picked the van up and looked in it, and this is not counting what he could have ordered from something like Amazon or even bought local between the 1st and 11th. BL was likely prepared when he left to be gone for weeks on end waiting it out for the search to die down.. whatever money he has pulled out is likely being saved for when he is ready to flee out of the country eventually (or whatever his plan is). I think what he did not count on was the publicity that this case would draw. I am just not going to get into the subject of whether his parents helped him or not. I have been in the Petito and Laundries families shoes. I fully know how cruel social media can be. Take my advice or ignore it, i don't care, i just felt it necessary to tell people that assume the moment he entered the woods, he is dead because he likely is not.
The parents said they went to the reserve "to look for him" on the 13th,14th, and 15th. Those easily could have been supplies drops.
Eric Rudolph avoided detection for 5 years. I heard he ate a lot of salamanders. I assume he must of resupplied in town but at the very least I think he dumpster dove. I’d be interested in more details of how he made it so long. I also don’t recall if authorities suspected he was hiding out in the woods of NC and were looking there or not. I’d think in Northport they would have at least found some clue that he had been in that preserve by now.
A person can go to a cheap grocery store and pay for a year of can goods for as little as couple hundred bucks, then divide that up in different locations and bury it.. i think the guy is going to stay hidden till someone stumbles across him or he slips up and is seen.
I think that’s why people are gravitating toward the theory that (if he isn’t dead), he’s in a sheltered place where he can be brought sustenance and provided for. That being said, to me it seems less far-fetched to just surmise that at this point he is deceased.
Watching this sub evolve has been bizarre… time to go touch some grass
This Subreddit is not part of your local airport or train system so you do not need to announce your departure.
Ok guys, we've all said our piece, myself included. Are we ready for a new thread? We need to get back on topic. This is about Justice for Gabby!
We had a new "General Discussion" thread. Mods locked it so now we're all back here.
EDIT: Mods have now deleted it.
What was on the thread
Is it possible for someone to post a link for the dr phil episode/s? Thanks!
I watched the parents on dr.Phil, and their pain is so palpable. You can just feel that they will collectively never give up finding justice for their daughter. Also, watched the interview with the sister and husband, I truly believe that BL’s sister does not know what’s going on…very interesting that she states the parents will not talk to her..
Can someone please ELI5 what the drama is about rewards this morning?
I found what I was looking for…. Yeesh
Oh good lord...
Unsubscribing. Wish all of you well and keep looking for that scum of the earth BL. Bye!
These “good morning” and “farewell” comments contribute literally nothing to this sub. Also, nobody here is out looking for BL, so why are you thanking everyone when we’re merely tuning into share opinions and get updates?
Dont let the door hit you.
I dreamed my husband cheated on me last night so I'm going to have to punish him... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Invite him to Grand Teton
This is so toxic and emotionally immature. How old are you, 15?
No what's emotionally mature are the people actually posting about this stuff and thinking it's ok. That's my point lol
My reply was not aimed at you, OP, it was for u/CrystalPayne38
Lol you sound like my wife. She punishes me by being mad at me and making me wonder all day why she's mad
We can't help it 🙈🙈🙈🙈🤣🤣 y'all should do better in our dreams
Lol I try but apparently in my wife's dreams I'm like Elvis and women are fainting when Im near like in bye bye birdie
I dreamt my girlfriend cheated on me with your husband. Wtf!
I think we should confront them together in our next dream.
Yessssss. I'm down 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What kind of sandwich are u gonna get? I could go for a meatball sub personally
I can't do Chipotle but I do love jalapeno
I thought I was in the current general discussion I'm going to repost there
I like meatball with peppers but I usually go with steak. You kinda have me craving meatball now tho
I usually go meatball with mozz and parm cheese but i do love a steak and cheese with chipotle mayo, onions, and jalapenos
I'm just getting one of each lol
CNN has a newish article with a lot of SB quotes
now that everyone has made it very clear how inappropriate those awards are… let’s keep pushing for justice for Gabby 🦋
new thread, better vibes?
To be fair, no one knows for sure. But judging by the circus of really suspicious behavior on his and his family’s part surrounding her disappearance and subsequent death, it sure looks that way.
Well I will be cleansing this toxin from my morning routine today. Each day the toxic culture has been getting worse on here. Time to step away.
Well said, PM_ME_BOOBS_N_ASS
Yeah those awards kinda made me sick. Road trippin. Whoever thought that was halfway appropriate shame on you. Whole thing is disgusting
They're all bad, but "Trippin'" all in bright pink cartoony letters like it's some cute, fun thing is just beyond.
It’s not just that. People are just really nasty and too quick to think the worst of each other.
This is not a kind environment.
oh no, yeah that is really fucked up. I am still learning wtf happened and why tf its still an issue lol.
Ok, so the Mods are volunteers, right? I *GET* that they've worked tirelessly on this sub, creating new threads, keeping the BS misinformation to a minimum. I, for one, acknowledge their hard work and dedication. I think the Mods DO deserve *some sort* of compensation for all the hours they put into this. Afterall, I'm sure they have lives themselves.
**But this is NOT the way to do it! Profiting off of a tragedy? Horrible. You guys could've linked a gofundme or something.**
I was late but was on when that thread just got posted. While I don't care about it as mych, I appreciate the thoughr, the hardwork the mod had been brainstorming and put out an effort for this.
However, if it is not appropriate for the sub, maybe a suggestion to do somethibg else will do.
Mods don't get money for community awards. They get some Reddit coins anytime a community award is given, which they can then use to give out more awards in that community.
^ thanks for linking that.
I personally think one or two tasteful, well-designed community awards might have been okay. The ones they added look tacky and were accompanied by descriptions that are quite out of touch.
It should have been a community vote. Not a vote by the mods. Because clearly the majority of the people who saw the thread found it in very poor taste.
I agree, I think there could've been room for awards that actually made sense for this sub but the way it was done seemed like they got caught up in the idea and weren't able to see the bigger picture anymore. I get for example that Gabby had a super fun and positive vibe an they probably thought of how to reflect that in the awards, but adding one to give out for stories of adventures and skateboarding just would've been incentive to post about stuff completely unrelated to the topic of this sub. I also saw someone who commented that it felt like merch, which I have to agree with.
Guys, later today I will be minting my Gabby Petito memorial NFT collection. A rare chance to own a piece of the Gabby Petito saga. All proceeds go directly to my pockets
If you disagree with the mods, be better than them and keep to conversation relevant. Don’t focus on the awards, focus on the case.
I think what I said, although satirical, is absolutely relevant to this case in regards to what we have all become as an information addicted society.
How is that relevant to the case? It’s relevant to the subreddit drama but doesn’t have anything to do with the case about a real young woman who died and whose real family is dealing with real grief.
So you want to trivialize the case because the mods are? How does that make sense?
No. I’ve never once defended the awards. The opposite.
The awards piss me off. People posting about the awards piss me off. The only group that doesn’t piss me off are those that actually want to keep the conversation relevant to the subreddit. Plain and simple.
Be better than the mods.
Do the mods donate any money made off the death of Gabby? Asking for a friend.
Reddit profits from the purchase of these awards associated with a murdered woman.
They don't get money for the rewards. They get some Reddit coins which they can then use to give out more rewards in the community [https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/chdx1h/introducing\_community\_awards/](https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/chdx1h/introducing_community_awards/)
I feel like if that was the plan they would've said so in the post introducing the awards. People would also be a lot less pissed about it if that were the case. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong but I don't think many of us would believe it if they randomly came out with that little nugget of info now.
What is this sub about? I tried to tell you all that everyone is getting way off topic, now even the mods need to be reminded that this sub is about Gabby.
Hey would y'all be interested if I created a new sub to get away from here? No experience creating a sub or moderating but would be happy to give it a try. My thought is we can have an award or two but any money I made would go directly to the Gabby Petito foundation (I'd be happy having no awards as well so reddit doesn't profit off of it either)
You would only get 20% of the award. That would be crazy to even donate money to an award when only 20% would go to Gabby.
The 20% are not given in actual money, mods get some Reddit coins for every community award given out in a sub, which they can then use for giving out more awards in the sub. [https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/chdx1h/introducing\_community\_awards/](https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/chdx1h/introducing_community_awards/)
If money is being made off this thread please point me to an alternative.
No actual money, Reddit coins. [https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/chdx1h/introducing\_community\_awards/](https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/chdx1h/introducing_community_awards/)
Those awards are the lamest shit ever.
so we can't have a daily discussion thread like normal because of some reward bullshit posted earlier?
We are getting a new discussion thread posted shortly, thanks for your patience.
hey thank you , literally woke up to a shit storm of weirdness... hope we all can just push wtf ever happened under a damn rug and get back to why we are all here.
omfg so we are being punished basically over mods wanting to get some sort of payment off of making a reward thing for this sub and the majority felt that was messed up?
Nope, we just cannot be trusted
Yea where’s our Friday morning thread? :(
I literally woke up like 10 min ago and seen the thread was there but fucking locked, I was up a couple hours ago and did see the award post . I am lost lol
They deleted it to make what they did, go away but we are obviously not going to allow profiting of moderators from Gabbys murder.
There was an idea, it didn’t go over well.
All in all the mods have done a fantastic job of keeping the conversation going and keeping it organized. Thanks to them for that! It’s a relatively thankless task and done I’m sure with good intentions.
No reason to get our panties in a bunch. Let’s move on and back to why we are all here. We want answers and this discussion is helping keep the situation in the forefront of our minds. Justice for a young life lost.
I bet the laundries are loving this... All it's doing is taking away from Gabby. People need to let it go, the mods have already come out and said they messed up and they are going to address it.
The awards need to be removed, it’s not enough to just take down the post.
Stop. You are being just as bad by focusing on it instead of the actual reason this subreddit exists.
If you disagree with the mods, be better than them.
No. The awards need to be removed.
Agreed but are they keeping you from discussing the case or are you choosing to talk about other things?
The awards are not going to be removed unless people demand for them to be removed... I'd like to return to the actual purpose of this sub too, but I think the awards should be brought up until there's a solution.
There is a solution. Ignore them. They’re tack as fuck and insulting. They don’t prevent discussion from happening. They don’t keep people from talking about Gabby and the case.
The only way the derail the subreddit is if people let them by talking about it non-stop. It’s obnoxious.
Plus, if the mods want us to discuss the actual case they would acknowledge what happened, remove the awards, and apologize. They haven’t, so people will keep discussing it until they get that closure. You can’t just delete comments you don’t like and hope it all goes away.
No. This subreddit is about the case. Just because the mods did something stupid doesn’t mean people should distract from the death of a young woman by bitching about the awards over and over again.
I don’t like the awards but two wrongs don’t make a right.
Be better than the mods.
I’m already better than the mods by not making an”LOL YER TRIPPIN” sticker about a young girls death.
Great. Then act like it.
I am, by not making tone deaf stickers.
And letting the tone deaf stickers distract from the topic of the subreddit is better, how?
There’s nothing to discuss about the case at the moment.
Then why are you here?
To get information about the case when it happens. Nothing has happened today with the case as it’s 8:20am.
How many times you gonna comment this shit
The latest what?
What the mods do have nothing at all to do with the case. You are focusing on subreddit drama instead.
And I’m fine with my comment being deleted. I wish people would shut up about petty shit and talk about the case.
Exactly. So why make a comment joking keep about them? Ignore them and move on.
I’m not defending the mods. I’m annoyed with the people who are treating it the same way.
Bad idea with good intentions, sure, but holy cow the drama queens!
The mods may have been planning to donate the proceeds to the GP foundation, but even if they weren't, who cares? These are volunteers, and their job is difficult, time-intensive, and thankless. So they made an error in judgment. Get over it or switch to Twitter and Tiktok. The mods don't owe you an apology. They aren't your friends, and they aren't your employees. This is reddit, and you aren't entitled to anything.
Plenty of people are profiting from this case in publicity, money, or both: FBI, NPPD, reporters, news sites, you tubers, podcasters, sun-kissed bounty hunters, and more. Most of these are doing nothing more than bringing attention to the case, but I'm still grateful because attention is helpful.
If you are outraged at the mods for this, at least be consistent and bring out your pitchforks for all the above.
Okay... I moderate a medium-sized subreddit and mods don't get paid for awards... Like the users buy the coins from reddit and use the coins to give awards. When a user gives a community award the subreddit gets coins for that purchase, but mods can't exchange the coins for actual money. So how were they going to convert Reddit coins into actual currency to donate to the Gabby Petito Foundation?
Oh, my pitchfork doesn’t discriminate.
Did you see the awards?
Cringe and *YIKES*
We all know about the stupid rewards. Drop it and move on. Don’t buy them.
What the mods did wasn’t great but everyone talking about the mods and awards instead of focusing on Gabby and the case is no better.
Be adults. Realize it was stupid. Keep the discussion relevant to the subreddit.
Then don’t delete the 7am GD thread? Blame the right folks.
So if i understand correctly, mods were trying to get some money from this sub from awards they created? From sub which is dedicated to a girl who was killed?
From everything I know, there is no money in it for the mods. They get some Reddit coins for it, which they can use to give out more awards. No $ profit.
Honestly i really don't know much about Reddit awards system. .. never got one and i only give free award if there is option. But i still think that this is not a topic to create an awards based on a Gabby's life.
And sorry my English is not that good hope you understand what i meant.
I agree, I don't think the awards were a good idea by any means. But as far as I know, it's not possible for the mods to actually profit from this.
Off the back of a dead girl. Unreal. In the end, the reality of the situation is posters are the lifeblood of a thread. Alienate them and the thread is toast.
To be fair, they put a lot of work into this for free. I know they signed up for it, but if people want to help pay them for their hard work it shouldn’t be a problem..
100% and now they are power tripping.
Yes. And now they are going power crazy and deleting or locking anything that goes against them.
Y’all should have seen this weird shit coming from the mods when they decided to control the discussion on the reality star.
What’s the pupdate anyway?
I found the mod activity strange before and a little annoying, but I just assumed it was because the sub grew quickly and maybe these mods didn’t have experience with large subs. This is a step too far for me though. Wish they would just make it right and at least take the awards down.
TIL that Bertolino has been retained by the mods
For anyone wondering mods do make money off community awards.
“20% of funds collected from the purchases will go toward paying moderators for their help managing the community.”
There’s a New York Post article on how it works.
I think the NYPost got this wrong. From everything I can see, mods get 20% Reddit coins from awards, which they can only use to give out more awards, not take them out as actual $.
It takes a lot to run something like this. I have some really large Facebook groups and It takes a lot out of you. I just wish they would have put like a tip jar or something and I would have been happy to donate. It was a bad judgment call and they know that, I think they will make it right.
Thanks for this. It’s very telling that the awards are still there under “community”.
Mods went from MVPs to Reddit's most hated real quick!
That’s what happens when you post tacky shit
Who's Facebook Aunt weasled her way onto the mod team btw? Obviously the tone of the awards is bad enough but the designs remind me of someone who shares minion memes and Bible quotes all day.
I can’t see this as something that wasn’t discussed by the mods as a group, honestly.
I would love to know how that convo went. They couldn't have all signed off on it. Just based on the reaction from all of us, at least one person had to think this was a bad idea.....right?
We can hope
Can we at least OPEN the daily discussion so we can RETURN TO THE REASON WHY WE ARE ALL HERE? The mods messed up and now we pay the consequences??? Sounds like you’re f-ing up twice now, save yourselves and put us back on course to continue the work catching Brian and getting JUSTICE!
You know Brian will be caught while this shit is locked too.
I’d love that but everyone keeps bringing up the awards!
I knowwwwww ugg
There's a link to the original awards post in this SubredditDrama post:
Lol just scanned the comments. They aren't wrong. Yikes.
Guys? Remember why we're here.
To not pay for mod profiting off GP. Yeah. Also, why delete the 7am GD thread?!
I am curious how the awards are created. Did someone have to actually design them?
Yes, the mods have to create the artwork for them (or have someone else do it), write the descriptions and assign the price of each award.
Yea I’m pretty sure someone would have had to create each art file
I just want to talk about the petito Case 🥺
Same. Woke up to a battle field when I just wanted updates
I saw it and I hate it
Mods locking posts that criticize the awards and monetization of the sub is incredibly cowardly. Own up to the mistake.
Ooooh a Pearl Jam fan ❤️
The mods will need to be clear what their motivation was; and if there was someone who sought to profit they need to be removed as a mod.
No, that mod just needs to go. Like banned from the sub, because some of those things were "not kind". Not at all. Not to Gabby's family, not to the domestic violence survivors here, not to basic human dignity.
To be fair, mods don’t get paid for awards that are bought. But the money for awards absolutely goes to Reddit. The subreddit just gets to collect “coins” so the mods can award users.
But who thought this was a good idea?! It takes so much time to develop these and no one stopped to think “maybe this is incredibly insensitive?”
20% of funds collected from the purchases will go toward paying moderators for their help managing the community.
Managing? You mean ignoring everyone breaking the rules of the sub?
For anyone confused:
[The Mods posted this last night](https://imgur.com/a/zpTS1oQ)
As you can imagine, that didn’t go well. 2 general threads were created this morning, and the mods weren’t allowing discussion about the awards in them. They directed members to the monthly meta thread instead. Both general threads were deleted almost immediately when people wouldn’t stop talking about the awards.
People (myself included) feel as if the mods are sweeping the issue under the rug instead of addressing the issue directly and taking accountability.
What is that? The Gabby silhouette looks like a body on the ground??
Dear Mods, you seem to need [this](https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbesagencycouncil/2017/06/20/13-golden-rules-of-pr-crisis-management/).
Is “shame them for being upset” in that article?
They just made a statement and I hope people read it. Give them a second to respond. This is all taken away from Gabby and finding POS that murdered her. Everyone needs to take a deep breath.
I agree that this is taking away from Gabby’s case, but this is on the mods, not on the members. Of course they need time to address the issue and make a statement, but censoring people from discussing the awards only fanned the flames.
I agree with that
Locking up discussion is probably not the best choice.
You saw this coming saying what You can discuss or not and the Auto Mod out of control and random banning of posters for 3 days.No free speech here at all just pathetic . There won't be any Mods banned I bet ! Use rules arbitrarily etc!Now I'll wait for my punishment haha!!
*General Discussion* my ass.
Did the 7am thread need to be deleted?
At this point, why not just say sorry and be done with it?? Universally seen as in poor taste by everyone here and the response is to lock and delete?
Like obviously moderating a sub that blew up so quickly is difficult, but apologizing is pretty easy…
