How do you hit someone when you have basically all the open sky you want?!

AgentRevolutionary99

This happened to a skydiving instructor. Another guy hit him and he became paralyzed. He has a YouTube channel now of his life.

GodsGreenGirth

link?

AgentRevolutionary99

Look up Chris Colwell on YouTube.

GodsGreenGirth

thanks!

southtodeath

That's not the same accident

Sluglife27

Not sure why you’re downvoted? It’s definitely not the same accident. The dude who was knocked out legit posted about it and the other guy was able to go work at IFly the next day

Uncooltickles

Definitely not the same accident. ‘Chris’ emergency shoot automatically pulls’ -agentrevolutionary99 source.

southtodeath

Lol thanks guys I'm wondering the same /shrug

parathrowawat

The beginning of the video (before this clip) shows they all jumped out holding hands. I don't know anything about skydiving but I guess it's hard to control where exactly you go at that point?

Ahneg

Not at all really, at least once you get some experience. People push limits though and sometimes do some dumb things and accidents happen.

ParsnipBusy

Dude FUCK skydiving wtf

AmongUs_69

I’ve never actually been skydiving before, I’m way too scared to do it

ParsnipBusy

Wow you’re so brave! I would freak out like “is my parachute gonna work” “am I gonna turn into a pancake” lol then these videos like fuuuuuuck

PatchesTheFirst

They said they haven't been skydiving...?

ParsnipBusy

Oh wow my brain completely glitched, jesus…

PatchesTheFirst

No worries, it happens! Have a nice day!

ParsnipBusy

You as well 🌸

predu39

Look at you two being all pleasant. Take my upvotes.

ParsnipBusy

Hope you have the best day 😉🌸

MrMeerkatt

The fact he's able to control the falling speed despite the size of his titanium balls is impressive.

StoneTheMoron

How do you think he does it? It’s those titanium balls pulling him to where he’s needed

Superblond

Yes ok, was a nice move, but the CYPRES would have automatically opened the parachute of that unconscious person at about 300m or 1000 feet. The moron who caused the collision should have his license revoked!

dinobug77

Genuine question : Never skydived and know nothing about any of this - but doesn’t it just make sense / is good practice that if you can get to someone to open their chute that you do so you 100% know it’s open?

MNKKaiser

Definitely. If there is altitude enough for you to deploy the guys canopy and still deploy your own at a safe altitude, then yes. But at some point if you run out of altitude you should consider your own safety and hope the AAD (automatic activation device) will save the persons life.

killer8424

Also to that point, if both people have the same safety system and hit the critical altitude wouldn’t their chutes both open at the same time? They look like they’re much, much higher than 1000ft though so not an issue here.

MNKKaiser

They would yes. And I agree, they have plenty altitude on this one.

RChristian123

Does every civilian parachute have a safety system like that?

MNKKaiser

It is mandatory equipment in most countries and drop zones. For some specific disciplines or jump types you can or should leave it out or turn it off. But these are typically when the AAD poses a higher risk in it self than the risk of getting in an accident where it will be your only fail safe.. If that makes sense. For high altitude jumps including free fall with other people, everybody should have an active AAD.

No_Celebration_3737

But by been unconscious, the parachute may try to open when his back face the ground, and that is not really a safe thing. Open it up sooner, also gives him more time to regain consciousness and retake control, especially for the landing.

Superblond

True!

Maxime_Bt

Wasn’t there an option to hold on to the unconscious guy and open your own parachute and go down together? What if the guy doesn’t wake up? At what speed will he “hit” the ground?

MNKKaiser

In Hollywood probably. For two reasons. It’s HARD to hold on to someone when the canopy deploys and after that you need your own hands to steer. That’s not gonna work. The other thing is wing loading. 2 persons weigh under your canopy designed for one person is not gonna end well. Definitely not if your own is a small high performance canopy. Better have the guy float down in his reserve which is fairly conservative flying and probably have a rough landing, but chances of survival I highest that way.

mruserdude

Slow enough. The bigger question would rather be of WHERE he ended up..

Robby_McPack

better safe than sorry

Snoo_97207

Surely you deploy the main chute though, much higher chance if the guy waking up and landing properly that way

MNKKaiser

You should deploy the reserve as he does in this video. You don’t want a potentially still unconscious guy flying a high performance canopy.

Snoo_97207

Ok yeah that makes sense

bullchips305

Not everyone dives with a CYPRES

lab57

This is why you don't jump out of a perfectly working plane

Ahneg

We used to say if the plane was perfectly good it would be in the revenue fleet, not the jump fleet. We did not jump out of perfectly good airplanes.

flywheel_jimmy

That's insane, what a legend

flyingraijin21

Superman spotted

sourav_cd

Damn dude, that was some superhero stuff!!

Nearby_Ebb3578

What sort of kamikaze shit is this

Cacti-make-bad-dildo

Made me sweat.

CulturalMaintenance9

All this damn space and you still manage to hit me? Da fack

emadarling

This is some Point Break stuff

parathrowawat

I found more info and video here - fortunately the guy landed safely in the landing zone. Apparently one of the others who was further away was considering deploying his main parachute and cutting it off to get closer, then relying on his reserve. What a terrifying decision to have to make while hurtling towards the ground... https://unofficialnetworks.com/2020/04/03/unconscious-skydiver-saved/amp/

direwolf180

That's some call of duty shit props to that guy

Spirit_of_Ecstasy

I went skydiving once, and people who haven’t done it have no idea just how fast your falling back to earth with your parachute deployed. You need to level out, otherwise you could easily break both legs upon landing. I imagine if this guy didn’t come to, he got fairly seriously injured. Still survived tho

bocainegood4mybrain

lokey makes me wanna skydive more for some reason

bikebrooklynn

The person who knocked the other person out looked like they did it on purpose.

jermhenny

Superhero shit.

AviationAdam

Fucking hero shit

mysticmagnet

I will never ever in a million years do this shit idc how much you pay me

I_Am_Airborne

That was like a cod cutscene

Muted-Reward-8365

Improper merge but guy who’s about to end your life has the right of way by default

k4rm4polic3

Lifesaver partner, no doubt the best partner you could have in a situation like this. Nice reaction and nerves. Scary!

PrestigiousTest6700

The unclip has left me unhinged….

CaregiverPutrid5560

Hardcore harry vibes on this

yaboireag

Chronicle

Minimum_Run_890

Are automatic openers required?

d-346ds

its mainly a standard practice nowadays but its still best to ask

downthegrapevine

Thank you for reminding me that skydiving is just another one of those ways to get rid of people who jump out of perfectly good and functioning planes

Boris-the-soviet-spy

Guy came flying in like Superman

Psybonixx

Straight out of call of duty
