Independent investigation finds Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer violated department policies

>investigators were "unable to substantiate Sheriff Troyer’s claim that Mr. Altheimer threatened to kill or harm him during that incident." Yet, he's being punished as if Mr. Altheimer's account is substantiated? The fact that he called it in and requested backup is a pretty good sign that he actually felt threatened. If he didn't feel threatened and just wanted to fuck with the guy, he wouldn't have called it in like that.

And people wonder why individuals no longer stop crimes in progress. The other day, a woman got raped on a crowded Philly subway car, and nobody lifted a finger to stop it. Actually, that's not exactly true, because some people lifted their fingers while playing with their cellphones. The lesson we've all learned is to *never* step in, because if your situational assessment is not 100% right, your intention of doing good doesn't matter and your life will be ruined in court.

Maybe Troyer exaggerated, maybe he didn’t. This investigation couldn’t tell. What it’s condemning him for is referring to the delivery man as potentially homeless as that could bias the police response. Seems like an easy conclusion to come to with someone driving around at night in Tacoma with a car full of newspaper when you are already framed to think the car is prowling. What most of these articles cut out that seems very relevant to the criminal charges was: “Moran interviewed neighbors who had separate interactions with Altheimer while he was delivering papers. In one instance, someone asked him what he was doing driving through the neighborhood, and Altheimer allegedly told him to “mind your [expletive] business” and to “[expletive] off.” Altheimer then got out of his car and walked to the neighbor’s car with his hand under his sweatshirt in a manner that appeared to the neighbor that he was concealing a weapon, the report said. The neighbor, who has a concealed weapons permit, pulled his firearm out and put it on his lap because he interpreted the driver’s actions to be extremely aggressive.” Read more at: https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article255305131.html#storylink=cpy Also: “In one instance, a newspaper carrier left a paper at customer “M.G.’s” residence, located near the Troyer residence, but was also seen trying a door handle of a car in the driveway, peering through the front door of the residence, and then urinating in a nook on the porch. This occurred in the early morning hours of January 2019, and the neighbor across the street captured these events on her Ring doorbell…”

You know that while it’s useful for non criminal related charges, it won’t be coming into Troyer’s trial unless he is personally aware of those prior bad acts before his own incident.

According to some of the reports, he was aware of recent property crimes which is why he was on alert. The crimes he is accused of are false reporting and providing a false statement. The criminal case will boil down to, were those statements made to dispatch false and did he know they were false at the time he made them. This could come into play. Troyer said in an interview that the officer misrepresented his statement. That he had been threatened but told the officer that he didn’t want to pursue it. I don’t think anyone else can say what the truth is for sure, what I am confused with is why Ed Troyer, who has spent so much of his time in public service and charity work is getting absolutely roasted over this he said/he said incident where the other party has some huge red flags about their credibility. Maybe I am missing something about a pattern of behavior, but it’s weird to see the biased reporting by newsrooms that he worked with for years twisting even this new report to make it sound like it said he was racially biased when it clearly said there was no evidence to support that.

brogrammer1992

His knowledge of general issues may come into play, but the prior bad acts of the witness won’t come in without his specific knowledge. Purely on the criminal matter.

Cpt_Impossible

Yeah that’s possible, it sounds like they had a neighborhood watch posting about activity in a facebook group where he was active as well as potentially this same driver on a Ring camera previously. It will get interesting. Like I said, I’m more curious why so many are out for blood on this night that both parties seemed to have forgotten about until a third party dug it up.

He harassed the newspaper guy but it's good he called in backup to cover it up?

HawksGuy12

Rural sheriffs attempting a coverup don't do it by calling 911 and asking for backup from on-duty cops. That said, cover *what* up? Nothing happened.

supercyberlurker

Good. I read this case and he abused both the trust of the public and other police. That's just like, angering everyone.
