$1B in building permits issued in St. Louis City in 2021

imakeholesinu

$1 Billion with 4 1/2 months to go? I think we can! Edit: Is there somewhere you go to see this info on a City website? Just curious.

rgbose

Yes, https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/data/dashboards/building-permits/years.cfm

imakeholesinu

Thanks!

Diffendooferday

That's amazing, I would assume mostly in the central corridor.

Jackprot69

As a player of SNES SimCity, I feel this so hard

Karnakite

Hopefully STL fares better than I did. The new year would always roll around, and my city budget was like, “congratulations, you still exist as mayor for some reason. Your budget for next year is $0 because you can’t manage anything.” Still love that game, though, even though I never made it to Megalopolis.

Jackprot69

Here's a cheat code that was recently found to give you a bunch of money https://tcrf.net/SimCity_(SNES)

Minnesota_Slim

Good job to everyone in this sub, it really was a team effort from top to bottom.

NacreousFink

Sorry pal, I did the heavy lifting.

elitemates

Can we build a skatepark in forest park? Or by the arch? Lol

symerobinson

Why is this a good thing? Is this the city making money or spending? Just asking!

uniqueoddfellow

Gentrification at an all time high!!

esmeralda_emerald

is there anything wrong with gentrification for the city of STL? Heaven knows this city needs it so badly.

astheworldspins

People really hate seeing STL improve, and yet complain non stop about the issues it has.

I'm very liberal and am happy to see investment in the city. I think its not really a liberal / conservative view - in STL gentrification is seen as racist.

Just read comments about any improvement in this city and it ends up being an irrational bunch of comments about how racist the city is. edit - including your comments.

Racism extends across all races. Asians can be pretty racist as well. Gentrification itself isn't racist, but my point is every discussion about investing in STL on this sub ends up turning it into a racist issue calling it white gentrification. It's a big facepalm emoji - "STL needs help, we need investors, we need money, jobs, tired of the crime and gun violence... omg investor wants to invest and improve an area that desperately needs help - gentrification." - Like what and where and how are people expecting the city to improve if no one wants to do it? Its not going to just do it on its own.

uniqueoddfellow

I guess not if you're a rich, white liberal..

esmeralda_emerald

lmfao what? I'm not white or liberal, but nice try.

uniqueoddfellow

You split hairs yet you act like The Grove, CWE, Lafayette Square, Benton Park, and every other gentrified community didn't force out the low income minorities and replace them with predominantly white, wealthy families..

Sobie17

Me, I'd prefer the crime-ridden rooming houses in Lafayette Square to the original largely single, 2, and 4 family zoning.

esmeralda_emerald

oh noes!!! I lived in Benton Park and my neighbors were black and Mexican! I'm Asian, fyi. White libs like you are the reason everyone hates liberals.

uniqueoddfellow

[Hmmmm](https://www.areavibes.com/st.+louis-mo/benton+park/demographics/) 70% White, 20% Black.. less diverse than the city it is a part of.. with every other ethnicity being less than 1%. FYI, I agree with you that white libs are the reason that everyone hates liberals.. I'm not liberal.

esmeralda_emerald

lucky for me that I lived on a diverse street then. Funnily enough the white neighbors (who all seemed liberal) ignored me while my black and Mexican neighbors always said hi to me.

Diffendooferday

I live in Benton Park. Hello neighbor. There, now a white liberal has said hello to you. It's a great neighborhood.

So wait, now it sounds like you are actually helping to prove my point?!

FullyErectMegladon

Neighborhoods falling apart and in disrepair? Racist Neighborhoods being built up and invested in? Racist Just one instance of what makes it hard for me to call myself a liberal

RowdyWrongdoer

What gentrification does is move the problem somewhere else that hasnt seen investment. Yes those areas are improved but not for the people who love there. They are ultimately displaced to another area and now take a city bus to work in their former town at a Wholefoods. But no one ones to invest in low cost affordable housing in any neighborhood. Its low cost, and affordable....and it helps people. None of those things jive with our current system. Thats honestly what the main issue is. Problems are simply shuffled around and it looks like progress.

AllowishusDevedander

Per [nextstl](https://twitter.com/NEXTSTL/status/1427618899940491264), the big projects are: * WUSTL Neuro * MOBOT visitor's center * Queeny replacement structural * MLS training center * DT YMCA conversion * La Collina * Terra * 2200 La Salle gEnTriFiCAtIOn!

Diffendooferday

Never fear, I am certain less than 1% of these building permits are in North City, which will retain its pristine condition with no gentrification.

nicklapierre

I refuse to believe anyone is dumb enough to invoke the gentrification meme when talking about a city built for 850k people that's sitting at 301k. I'm going to assume that you're trolling and go about my evening.
