St. Louis Blues prospect robbed at gunpoint on Gateway Arch grounds

reddit_original

Because it was on the Arch grounds, doesn't that make it a Federal crime?

Skatchbro

Yes.

RedPandaBoi8910

Yes. Any crime commited on federal land is a feder offense.

dumbanfun

Correct. I may have been ticketed back in the early 90s for peeing near said structure after attending a concert at Kennedy's. Can confirm...Feds.

Skatchbro

Kennedy’s. Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.

DaltonTann

Is it just me or has downtown become especially bad lately?

LastChicken

It's been going downhill since COVID began. Much fewer people around, especially outside of the Wash Ave stretch.

therealtruthaboutme

It was like a totally different place when I came back after the first covid shutdown at night when working there.

EvulBuddha

It was pretty bad back when I was there in 2018-2020 and it seemed to only get worse when the pandemic started.

RobsSister

Not just you.

toss_my_potatoes

Yep. I moved from 8th st in April and right before I did, there were gunshots/fireworks almost every night, my friend got mugged in the daytime, fights were breaking out in the streets, cops were raiding parties, and a lot of business were still completely boarded up. The amount of broken glass on the ground every day was insane lol

SewCarrieous

Downtown has always been sketchy

imdirtydan1997

Did the Blues not warn him about the St. Louis welcoming committee?

cnk612

They did, but they also recommended Reign for dinner.

JayWhite517

the drink?

cnk612

No, the place that has more hun shootouts than the OK Corral.

Fighter_spirit

Something something something downtown is perfectly safe. Can't even go to a national park during sunset without getting robbed at gunpoint wtf?

bring_back_SPQR

yOu R a RaCiSt If YoU mOvE tO sT cHaRlEs

Fighter_spirit

Literally actually where I'm moving. Had my fill of downtown. But God forbid I do it for any of the reasons on the laundry list of problems with the city. It must purely be because I hate black people.

bring_back_SPQR

Good for you man! I actually moved further west out in Warren county. It's a little too red necky out here but, I have privacy and I am left alone.

chinacatlady

I went east, ended up in Barcelona Spain. Finally, I can walk downtown and not worry snout getting shot. Note: lived in downtown St Louis 2006 - 2011. It was dangerous then. I lived in the meridian, watched plenty of drive-by shootings over the years. Can’t say I miss it.

Skatchbro

One armed robbery in 10 years hardly makes the Arch grounds unsafe.

medical_bacon

Last year there were several armed robberies on the arch grounds.

Skatchbro

Source? I don’t recall any reports of armed robberies on the Arch grounds.

medical_bacon

https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/crime/visitors-to-st-louis-arch-grounds-robbed-at-gunpoint-twice-since-it-reopened/63-f2fa325d-8cb0-4b8a-bc84-42f6991416ac And there was one or two more after this.

Skatchbro

Huh. I guess I’m going to have to do something no one in Reddit history has done- admit I’m wrong.

KartyT314

The arch isn’t safe. The area immediately surrounding the grounds includes a giant homeless encampment where I’ve witnessed drug use and violence, abandoned buildings, and the riverfront that literally won’t let cars drive through freely anymore because there was so much gang activity. Saying that the grounds are safe is ignorant when the only ways to access the grounds are dangerous.

AlexRam72

What about the bullet riddled car that was found there like a week ago?

Skatchbro

Shooting happened on Washington Ave. Car crashed onto the grounds. Doesn’t count. No federal crime.

daGOAT_SMOKEHEAVY

…. well I doubt he’s willing to play for STL now

wrenwood2018

Nothing to see here. St. Louis definitely doesn't have a crime problem.

elduderino197

Downtown stl is dead, like bad dead

JZMoose

It's so sad man, 14th and wash used to be so much fun, now everything is gone and it's a ghost town.

toss_my_potatoes

yep :( Wash Ave Post closing sealed the deal for me

TheGr8erG00d

I miss them. :(

toss_my_potatoes

The counter guy was so nice!!! And the fluffy white dog 😞

chinacatlady

What? Coffee Bob closed up shop? That sucks.

CrazyDistribution264

This is why St. Louis can’t have nice things.😞

Cheeseit69

Welcome to the Lou

norfolk82

Should read: former stl blues prospect. This guy isn’t going to want to come here anymore.

Theodore_Calvin

What happened to all those feds who used to hang around the Landing all the time?

Skatchbro

? Feds hung out at the Landing?

Theodore_Calvin

It was National Park Service employees. I think they had jurisdiction over the parking garages, or at least the one or several by the Arch.

Skatchbro

Gotcha. It was the garage on the south side of the Eads Bridge/ Washington Ave.

shokzer

Welcome to St Louis, kid. Hope you survive the experience.

SloTek

Over half the cities budget goes to police. They have that entire area of riverfront fucked to shit for people actually using it with rocks and barriers, miles long sightlines, and cops sitting there 24/7 hastling people for going to look at paint, and they have no fucking idea about an armed robber on foot. Can you imagine being this fucking useless at your job?

Educational_Skill736

StL budget: $ 1.1 billion Portion of stl budget for police: $170 million

STLSouthCityDad

Half the budget is police?

Hulkhagan

Blissfully unaware.

800oz_gorilla

Previous_Ad_9209

portalphysicist

Stlb80

Could it be because you know, the robber in this case actually ran up on them with the gun out?

spark_this

Someone find out where Kanye was last night
