Yeah cause in 06 I think they were the losingest team to win a world series. And I think I remember them seemingly trying to lose their way out of the playoffs at the end of the year
Yeah the 2006 team legit had a lot of talent. It was a carryover of the teams that had put up 100 win seasons but had a lot of nagging injuries. Now 2011 didn't have kind of average talent that got hot and clicked at the same time. So yeah definitely 2011 not 2006.

Good piece, nice to get a national paper's perspective.
Its a travesty that one of the perennial favorites to win the title (Dodgers) and the hottest team in the sport (Cards) essentially decide their season in a one game playoff. These two teams should play at minimum a 5 game series.
Success breeds contempt, mostly. I think we had a reputation around the league as a bunch of stuck-up, anti-bat-flipping fundamentalist wet blankets, but that's waned since Matheny left.
Red hot RIPLETS
Haha I was thinking the same. Imagine toasted ravs breaded in red hot riplets. We may be on to something.
I both do and don’t want to eat 12-20 in a sitting
12-20? Those are rookie numbers.
My wife breaded scallops in riplet dust once. 10/10. would eat many more.
Does she have a sister? Asking for a friend.
Stop. My penis can only get so erect.
/r/dontputyourdickinthat
Shit. Havent done that but have breaded chicken in crushed riplets. YUM
👏👏 👏👏👏
Had the game on yesterday while I was working and holy cow. That comeback definitely felt like dark magic! Haha, absolutely incredible!
is this 2006?
More like 2011.

Turns out the ‘73 Mets had a worse record.
They didn't win the series though.
Yep. I misread. Mets had a worse record as a league champion but not a WS champion.
No worries.

06 we stumbled into the postseason, losing 9 of our last 12
I think Cubs fans started that devil magic idea. I love the irony that they’ve contributed to the winning mystique around the Cardinals.
"Yeah, curses and goats are cool, but have you ever summoned a squirrel into the field from the depths of hell?"
I'm glad that devil magic is now being used as a phrase outside of this forum.
It’s all over the place on r/baseball, look at any post regarding a Cardinals victory lol

It is just sour grapes. There is also a coastal bias. How dare a midwest team be successful.
people don't like the "best fans in baseball" thing and think we're annoying.
I think it's annoying/sanctimonious, and I was born and raised here.
This. Yep.
The Cardinal Way (TM)
We’re the national league Yankees. Well, only because of the 11 rings. Nowdays the Dodgers fit that moniker way better
Actually, this one is pretty positive and very well written. Check it out: [https://wapo.st/3kDJKp3](https://wapo.st/3kDJKp3)
The media always write the cardinals off even though they are one of the more successful teams.
Damn, maybe if they had burned a pentagram on the field I would have been interested in going to a game when I was 16 and edgy.
The Alexian Brothers Hospital will need to host another exocism...right after we win in November.
Crazy Cardinal Shit
