DINGER!!!! DING-ER!!!!!

Monk_Philosophy

Are people already forgetting about Kenta Maeda having a mystery surgery a few weeks back?

AegisPlays314

“I’m Mystery Manager!” “Actually, we just say manager”

onlymostlydeadd

him?

RootyWoodgrowthIII

I have Pop Pop in the dugout.

AegisPlays314

The mere fact that you call it that tells me you’re not ready for the playoffs

burlyunicorn

Somebody's in hot ham water if they don't get the jab.

chanaandeler_bong

They are prematurely blue-ing their chances at winning a WS.

OlafShvenski

BEES?!

DJZbad93

But you said

Techun2

Doesn't matter who

BeloitBrewers

"Mystery managed!" -Mystery Manager after completing the Marauders' Lineup Card

Bongopro

Easily could be Tingler

bbatardo

He said contending team, so that eliminates Tingler. Yes I'm a Padres fan lol

plokijuh1229

mystery team? more like mystery meat

SwonRansonCPA

So how are they handling it if a manager got the J&J shot? Are they going to make him go back and get one of the others?

BigGoopy

I mean right now you’re not supposed to do that, the FDA hasn’t recommended it, so that’s a great question

Calliomede

This could be old news, but at one point I read if a study showing vector and mRNA might offer more complete protection together (not administered at the same time obviously, but for example a booster of J&J for someone who got Pfizer or Moderna). Information is changing constantly so take that with a grain of salt.

shakexjake

Yup, my bad. I thought they were saying getting J&J in the first place wasn't recommended. The original comment was asking what MLB would do if a manager got J&J, and I'm still left wondering if the requirement is for them to get an mRNA vax.

JollyRancher29

I initially read it the same way tbf

cnaiurbreaksppl

Has fda recommended/suggested NOT mixing the brands, or have they just not really commented on the matter?

NedShah

A few different health organizations around the world had to come out in favour of mixing brands after AstraZeneca lost the confidence of the people. Lots of 40-to-50s are walking talking experiments for mixing A-Z with Moderna. If I don't comment again, the experiment wasn't good.

BigGoopy

I believe they have discussed putting out guidance soon about being able to get an mRNA booster if you got J&J but nothing official yet

JRob370

So it’s Tingler or Bell I guess? That’s what it sounds like Edit: actually seems like it’s Bell based on some Tingler comments

all4whatnot

David Bell? The guy who would get huge packages of roids mailed to his house as a player? Sounds about right. I’m not imagining that. That really happened when he was in Philly right?

fsburk

David Bell was taking roids while he played for us? Never would have guessed from watching him play.

all4whatnot

The man hit for the cycle as a Phillies if I am not mistaken! Actually he was the last member of the team to do it. Back in 2004.

fsburk

Yes but he was generally not a good player for us. Maybe I was just spoiled for 3rd basemen by Scott Rolen

MilkCarton78

Remember when Wes Helms was our starting third baseman? Those couple years just feel like a fever dream when I look back at it.

[deleted]

The same David Bell that sent a relief pitcher to the opposing dugout to fight an entire team?

tokai-teio

Still one of the funniest moments in baseball I've gotten to witness. That still of Amir Garrett in the middle of them is hilarious

El_Zarco

Don't forget the Kyle Crick intimidation air-hump

FordEcosportFanatic

My favorite part was Keone Kela throwing at people and acting surprised when Puig wanted to kill him

firstcoastrider

“What? This how were supposed to play baseball!”

KingXeiros

I cant think of this fight and not think of Chris Archer. He practically got steam rolled lol.

JarJarBrinksSecurity

If I remember correctly, that wasn't Bell. Bell had already been ejected that game.

Bluehale

That didn't keep him from joining the fun though 🤣

Or all the dumb hicks I know who crush sixers of shitty beer, tins of dip, and whatever cheap shitty food they have at hand multiple times a week but won’t get it because they “don’t know what’s in it.”

boringdude00

Don't forget the Oxy.

coffee42

signed, Purdue Pharma

ottovyeoj

Based on the decisions he makes daily, this would be zero percent surprising.

Holdmydicks

Can't be a Tingler, cause the Dads aren't contending for shit

Bael18

Don’t give up quite yet dads, we need you to keep beating the Giants please.

GiantsNut57

Don’t listen to them little dad brothers! If you lay down and die for us the rest of the way, we’ll let you have an extra half hour on your turn for the Xbox AND our dessert for a week

Bael18

Shit, we can’t offer a package as good as that. All we have is money, lots of it.

Monk_Philosophy

What’s the indication that it’s either of those guys?

JRob370

Everyone else has either said or strongly implied that they’re vaccinated. Tingler has kinda implied it too, so that really leaves Bell

imuglywhenimpeein

Baker, Boone, Cash, Cora, La Russa, Melvin, Montoyo, Servais have all mentioned being vaccinated. So I do not imagine it is someone in the AL

14thAndVine

Baker still wears gloves and a mask in the dugout. Yeah, he's vaccinated lol

RecycledCan

Baker already has a booster lol mans vaxxed to the nines

JAWinks

Baker’s already in the clinical trial to help test the vaccine of a future outbreak

lunchbox_6

Maxx vaxx

klawehtgod

EatinBeav

Hey thanks for including Servais in there

kevlarcupid

It was very kind

GiantsNut57

It was an exceptional Servais

misshawk

Brian Snitker mentioned [he got it back in April](https://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-braves/braves-working-hard-to-reach-85-vaccination-threshold/QEUYWPBQXBDG5OTS446HWPT5UA/), so you can cross his name off too.

CamelRacer

I read the headline and thought maybe that was why he was giving away games by trotting Will Smith out there.

VStarffin

Robert said he is vaccinated as well. Said he was ‘all in’ on it, got it early in the year.

Rebel908

Roberts is also a cancer survivor, part of what made JT coming back onto the field incredibly reckless last year.

jesteronly

So has Kapler (kap even said he would talk with and try to get vaccine hesitant players and personnel to take it). Dave Roberts has stated that he got the vaccine in April

ubiquitous_archer

I thought I heard it reported that Boone has had his, but his dad did just resign his position with the Nationals over the vaccine, so who knows.

skysoleno

He's vaccinated - it was mentioned in regards to his father not being (he got it prior to surgery)

viper1856

plus it says contender

avy_sionnach

I thought it might be Girardi because [this headline](https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/covid-19-vaccine-mlb-phillies-joe-girardi-hector-neris-shot) is very damning and because of the Phillies' problems with getting vaxxed, but seems he's gotten the shot too.

Phillies2002

They were doing free vaccinations at Citizens Bank Park and were advertising it with a literal picture of Joe Girardi receiving the vaccine, so it's not him

TeddysBigStick

Pump fake, it was him getting the jab for yellow fever because he hears there is a great young arm in the jungle.

GOATmar_infante

He said playoff contender

gatemansgc

Come on now, we're contenders until we lose 2 of 3 to the marlins in the last series of the regular season.

Phillysean23

Come on now, we're contenders until we lose 2 of 3 to the orioles next week. FTFY

gatemansgc

Nah it's the fish that will do us in cause it'll be THE most heartbreaking way to miss the playoffs.

BelowTheBells

Every series against the Phillies, especially towards the end of the season, is my own personal World Series.

brodinatorpks

More like when the Mets get swept by the Braves…

PeregrinToke

Hey that’s the Mets’ special, enjoy it!

sambraddock9

He has the shot and the Phillies hit 85% vaccinated last week, late but they got there

gatemansgc

I guess VV and DLS weren't vaxxed cause we hit the number after releasing them.

liverbird3

Roberts mentioned getting the first shot too, so I would assume he’s vaccinated as well

rogozh1n

A good number of famous people have been confusing at best in affirming their vaccination status. I dont trust anyone's public words anymore.

RadicalPenguin

TLR being vaccinated surprises me. Seems like overkill; pretty sure the Covid would get overcome by all the alcohol on his body

film10078

Don’t give anyone any ideas

tokai-teio

I feel like if it was talking about Servais as a contending team there would be a separate issue with the tweet

ChuckBerryHookerFart

Confirmation for [Servais being vaccinated](https://youtu.be/ooeon6tHYuE) Breath easy, Mariners fans.

kevlarcupid

Are we really contending though?

UnreproducibleSpank

BlackCloudDiner143

This is the oldest cop out in existence

caityb34

Essentially

imuglywhenimpeein

Melvin: https://twitter.com/matthewkawahara/status/1375578916165799939 Cash mentioned it on a broadcast when talking about relaxed dugout protocols which I can't find a link to, but he does mention looking forward to get the shot here (Dec 2020): https://sports.yahoo.com/news/how-will-mlb-handle-clubhouse-divisions-over-covid-19-vaccine-as-baseball-seeks-return-to-normalcy-230107345.html

Puzzled_Jury4982

Oh god. It's Bud Black, isn't it?

keikei-with-love

Headline says 'contender', so I'm leaning no on that one.

Puzzled_Jury4982

Boy are you doing to feel foolish in a month

Potassium_Patitucci

That 1st pick still up for grabs baby

vikingjr25

Why do managers need to be vaccinated and not players?

burlyunicorn

Unions on the player side.

FartingBob

Because all MLB players are also epidemiologists that know far more than those dumb scientists making vaccines that give everyone 5G cancer. Also, they have a strong and also shitty union which for some bizarre reason wanted their members to risk giving their other members covid.

SMK77

"I've been pampered my entire life because I'm good at a game so that somehow made me believe I'm smarter than the smartest people in the world despite not doing most of my own work in school" It's so annoying. I went to a top tier Big 10 sports school where even the wrestling team had people writing papers and doing most of their work for them. Most of the anti vax people I know that are younger than 30-35 are these ex athletes I know. So they get free school, a decent job handed to them because they were an athlete at a popular school, and a lot of them didn't do 90% of their school work. But they're VERY intelligent somehow.

basebuul

Always disappointing to see people throw stupid generalizations around to take a potshot at unions. Most MLB players are vaccinated, the union has an unfortunately weak stance but it supports vaccination.

Bael18

I am strongly pro-union, but I’ve been pretty disappointed in the weak ass support they’ve give for vaccine mandates across the board. One of the unions representing local healthcare workers came out against them >.<

usedmyrealnamefirst

Bold to call the Padres contenders.

feeling_blue_42

If it’s Tingler maybe he’s just waiting to see if the Padres make the playoffs or he gets fired before the playoffs. It would suck to get vaccinated from a deadly pandemic AND THEN find out it was completely unnecessary.

usedmyrealnamefirst

I just made up a conspiracy theory in my head that the reason why tingler fights so hard for Hosmer is bc they’re anti vax bros in it together.

The_Chorizo_Bandit

I thought conspiracy theories were usually crazy and untrue though?

sgt_dismas

It's gotta be Tingler. The players love him so much they're tanking out of the postseason so they can enable his non-vax behavior. /s

ContinuumGuy

I look forward to the first person to manage from one of those rolling screen robot things.

TheKidPresident

Hospital rolly ipad for manager of the year

lenapedog

I love the detective work going on in the comments.

VStarffin

I know he’s not eligible for this given they aren’t contending, but the manager least likely to be vaccinated has to be Mike Matheny, right?

t-poke

Matheny is definitely the guy who would wind up in the ICU for COVID and ask for prayer warriors to heal him on Facebook.

BMFC

Matheny wearing wrap around Oakleys and goatee confirmed.

reggiecide

And his family would post a Gofundme.

cepster

Potential Herman Cain Award nominee?

Michael__Pemulis

Idk I feel like Ned Flanders would get the vaccine.

unimaginativeuser110

Ned Flanders doesn’t believe in inoculations

Top_Celery9396

Ohdearlordjesusdontbecraigcounsell

Anon-Sequitur

Couldn’t find anything conclusively saying he did get it, but Counsell has said he would get vaccinated (Dec 2020): https://www.google.com/amp/s/sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/how-will-mlb-handle-clubhouse-divisions-over-covid-19-vaccine-as-baseball-seeks-return-to-normalcy-230107345.html Brewers were also one of the first to reach the vaccine threshold and did a PSA campaign in support (though idk how much that has to do with Counsell). Not 100% proof but seems pretty unlikely it’s him

the_flys_fly

🤔 something isn’t adding up for me. Please let me know if I’m mistaken, but if they get the first shot on 10/4, they wouldn’t actually be vaccinated until around 11/18 (after one month before the second shot and then two weeks). Which is well after the World Series? Edit: also I’m immediately skeptical of anything from Heyman. He’s whack.

GOATmar_infante

Your first mistake was expecting MLB to have a plan that makes sense

the_flys_fly

Haha yeah I guess that’s true.

Ironamsfeld

They’d be partially vaxxed but not fully.

NandorsDad

And even that offers a pretty decent amount of protection

Michael__Pemulis

Of course you’re right but that doesn’t necessarily mean that isn’t the league’s policy anyway. Heyman is an asshole & a dummy but he is usually pretty reliable. More than Bob for sure.

the_flys_fly

Ok. I guess if my thoughts are correct then I’m questioning the point if the rule since it seems it wouldn’t do anything to deter the virus. Like, why not make them get it sooner?

yoitsthatoneguy

> it seems it wouldn’t do anything to deter the virus. One shot of mRNA vaccine still provides increased effectiveness over zero shots. I haven’t looked at the data in awhile, but I believe Moderna is ~70% effective with one shot (2 shots gets you to 90+). Pfizer is most likely right around there too.

the_flys_fly

Yeah-but the article above says there is no protection until 12 days, which still puts it past the wild card and division series and well into the league championships.

scottydg

Correct. They want the people in question to *try*. They really needed to institute this policy a month ago, but it's too late for that. The best time to get vaccinated was a while ago, the second best time is now.

Johnny1America

No one is throwing Snitker’s name out there. Gonna assume that’s because he wastes his bad decisions on Will Smith in the 9th inning. Ayoooooo but seriously I hope it’s not/doubt it is Snit.

misshawk

[Snit got it](https://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-braves/braves-working-hard-to-reach-85-vaccination-threshold/QEUYWPBQXBDG5OTS446HWPT5UA/), so it’s def not him!

PeteGogolak4HOF

Snit has said he got it

bingold49

So even J&J isnt good enough?

mournthewolf

The issue is it does reduce symptoms like the other shots but because it doesn’t prevent infection as much you can get more positive tests from the J&J. But players were allowed to get boosters with the J&J so it should work out about the same.

plokijuh1229

Cora is vaccinated so it's not us.

VincentFreeman_

Tingler is from Missouri, soooooo.

Godunman

hey! you...are probably right

midrange-deadeye

Is la russa vaccinated?

Michael__Pemulis

The old guys are almost certainly vaccinated. I would be absolutely shocked if it were TLR or Dusty.

Yolopogo

Dusty was vaccinated back in February before the season started. He was a little hesitant but has been a good voice to get it since

MasterMentorJr

Dusty also got a booster shot already. He even said it put him in "la la land"

JackeryA3

[Yes, he is](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.chicagotribune.com/sports/white-sox/ct-chicago-white-sox-tony-la-russa-vaccine-20210221-nzkvted2zzgwdjauksadneglhi-story.html%3foutputType=amp)

GoldGlove2720

Pretty sure he is vaccinated.

NedShah

Someone spiked his booze with vaxx. He didn't even notice. Just drove himself home.

red_firetruck

Funny thing about this type or journalism is that it might be true, or it might be completely made up. Unless someone steps up and identifies themselves as the person, or someone names the person, nobody will ever know.

BlackCloudDiner143

So I figured Cora was the culprit, but if he’s vaccinated as others are saying, then the only one that jumps out at me is Girardi. Is Snitker vaccinated?

realbadaccountant

Cora does local PSAs for getting the vaccine. No way it would be him.

avy_sionnach

Girardi said some pretty [noncommittal things](https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/covid-19-vaccine-mlb-phillies-joe-girardi-hector-neris-shot) about the vaccine, but it seems he's gotten it. Luis Rojas also has been vaccinated, so I believe that leaves Snitker, Bell, Counsell, Roberts, and Tingler? Edit: Roberts and Snitker are both vaxxed. That leaves Bell, Counsell, and Tingler as candidates.

BlackCloudDiner143

Oh fuck, it’s gotta be David Bell right?

[deleted]

[удалено]

BlackCloudDiner143

I see no way it’s Counsell or Roberts. Snit…

avy_sionnach

Snitker's vaxxed. I feel like Tingler has to be the top contender at this point.

BlackCloudDiner143

But they said “contending team.” *Ba dum tss*

PeteGogolak4HOF

Actually, I don't know where I saw bell saying he got it. It's gotta be bell, counsell, or tingler

Lathundd

I don't remember if Counsell has commented on his own status, but Brewers were one of the first teams to reach 85%, have hosted vaccination clinics, have had players get the vaccine on camera for PSAs, and generally been on the progressive side of social issues recently. While none of that rules him out, it does make it seem unlikely that the widely respected manager of that team holds a completely opposite view.

ThatNewSockFeel

https://www.jsonline.com/videos/sports/mlb/brewers/2021/04/06/manager-craig-counsell-explains-going-vaccination-effort-clubhouse/7104030002/ I went looking and didn’t find him explicitly say he was vaccinated but he did that interview at the beginning of the season and said a lot of pro-vax things and it was important for the team to get vaccinated so I feel pretty safe assuming he got a shot.

Michael__Pemulis

Based on nothing but personality: I could imagine Tingler or Bell being the one. But that’s completely baseless speculation.

Cards2WS

Is Schildt vaccinated?

Michael__Pemulis

Yes he got it with the team the day before the regular season started.

KommanderKitten

We were like the first team to reach the clubhouse vax threshold

caityb34

Counsel said he would get it

tj3_23

I don't remember if he explicitly confirmed it at the beginning of the season, and I'm not sure if anyone has directly asked him since, but we reached the threshold to relax restrictions early in the season and Snit made some comments before that about how he wanted to reach the threshold ASAP, so I would be shocked if he was pushing it on his players without taking it unless he actually had a legitimate medical reason not to

CamSox1

Cora definitely would not be anti-vax

[deleted]

Sounds like it’s gotta be Bell or Servais Edit: it’s not Servais

aboogapmoo

Servais has been very vocal about getting vaccinated.

Kuzzawuzzabingbong

Servais is incredibly pro vaxx. He even held a competition with the vaxxrd players to get entered to have their name drawn to be put up in super fancy hotel suites for entire road trips or something.

OceanPoet87

Okay but theJ&J vaccine works just fine.

FartingBob

Its better than no vaccine, but its also significantly less effective than the more advanced vaccines that have been readily available for most of the year.

Spokker

Yup. Moderna master race here. We look down on all other vaccines. J&J might as well count as unvaccinated. /s

twright3373

Not close to the effectiveness of the others

Noy_Telinu

Phillies I'm guessing?

HoskinsDadBodGod

Girardi doesn’t wear a mask in the dugout, and wasn’t wearing one even before we were at 85% (not allowed without vaccine). I’m pretty sure he’s been vocal about getting it too.

Noy_Telinu

I guess it is just some of his players that are stupid

HoskinsDadBodGod

He’s still handled it bad. He said we wouldn’t pressure his players to get it.

0ddmanrush

That is absurd.

JTCMuehlenkamp

So who do you think it is?

avy_sionnach

From another thread on this tweet - Kapler, Cora, Baker, LaRussa, and Boone have all been reported to be vaxxed, while Montoyo would've needed it to cross into Canada. It wouldn't surprise me if others have been reported vaxxed as well.

Michael__Pemulis

Cardinals were the first team to 85% (virtually the whole team got the J&J the day in between ST & Opening Day). So while Idk for sure that Shildt is vaccinated, it would seem super unlikely that it is him. Edit: yea looks like Shildt confirmed he was getting the shot with the team.

JackeryA3

Shildt definitely got it

studlydudley11

Yeah it was reported at the end of ST he and Mo would both get it

Cochise22

Shildt, despite his flaws, is a gamer. I don’t know what his personal beliefs are, but he definitely strikes me as the type that would never risk losing time or games because of not getting a shot.

downtown3641

My money is on Dusty.

VStarffin

Why is no one mentioning Kapler? He sort of fits the profile of someone who would be anti-vax given his crazy obsession about putting things in his body.

MikeZunino

https://twitter.com/janiemccap/status/1376661432922595328

IC7102

It’s public knowledge he received his first shot in March

detelini

Kapler is a health nut but he doesn't have uh, the demographic profile as your average anti-vaxxer, let's say.

T-Wrecks559

Kapler was probably one of the first coaches to get it. He's a health nut but he's a smart progressive dude. So, the kind of health nut that would understand that the vaccine is the best thing he can do for his health. He's a breath of fresh air, a good manager and a good dude. Love the guy.

911orbust

I think he mentioned before it was available that he would get it but idk if it was ever confirmed.
