Works the same as normal categories, and would be a good replacement for role dividers. Also would be convenient to move/hide multiple roles at once for servers with lots of roles. Reduces clutter.
Very good idea. Simply because it would add the ability to allow roles to have the same "priority" in a heirarchy. Imagine you want two roles to have literally equal importance. There's no real way to do it r.n., you have to pick one to place above the other, which screws stuff up if both roles are supposed to have privileges over the lower roles.
It adds more options without getting in the way, so I like it. It changes the flow chart system of current roles to a tree, branched out version.
Would be nice
I still don't get why this hasn't been implemented yet, people have suggested this for ages now....
Probably one of the largest reasons is the hierarchical structure of roles. By adding groups they'll have to redesign it. Then you're left with the question, how should they handle it? Should each group be 1 hierarchical tier, with each inside being equal? Or should each role inside the group be in order of placement within the group itself? Etc. discord roles are already confusing for beginning end user, and that's before overwrites. Overwrites most people don't understand at all how they work, and how would the role structure of groups work in those?
Note: I want role groups, I just don't know how it's going to work if/when they implement it.
There are two relatively easy solutions for this I would say:
1. Just use the normal hierarchy, as if the role groups / categories weren't there. Basically like we are currently doing with custom group dividers.
2. Add a hierarchy option to each role, let us just give each role a number and the higher the number is, the higher it is in the hierarchy. If you do so, you could also add an toggle to do this automatically (would be on by default) and in that case you could just order it like I described in the first option. That way you could also just order roles in a way they look nicer and while then using the hierarchy to describe if a someone can for example give you that role.
I personally love #2, but discord will never do that. Because that would require a full rewrite of the role system. And it'll be seen as unfriendly.
And #1 is the most likely.
As a bot developer, fuck this change.
As a user, please do thiz
Wouldn’t it be easier to gives roles a category option like you have with channels
Do you really think Discord cares about the "people"? They'll take this feature as inspiration for implementing into their shitty nitro subscription and all the consumers will flock and tell everyone it's not a "necessary function"
Your brain is filled with tap water and very small fish
How so? What is there you don't agree with that you don't feel like discussing, so you just insult me instead? Discord has been proven to not give a shit about community feedback, features like these get suggested once a month and Nitro is getting shoved in our faces everywhere. With big buttons appearing and replacing once useful features and the consumerism market thriving over these features, mocking anyone who claims it's a feature that should really be free.
Because this is a functionality feature and not a vanity feature, and no matter how hard you try to jerk your hate rod, nitro is entirely about non-essential but very useful features. That is why I disagree.
You also sound exceptionally sensationalist and you seem to care a little *too* much about this issue, and that makes people not take you seriously.
How else do you propose discord fund itself? They have to incentivize people to pay a **measly ten dollars a month** so they can avoid having to put ads on the platform, which would suck, by the way. It's the same reason I always make fun of people who complain on r/discordapp: they complain about shit they don't need while continuing to use a completely free platform with zero ads. It's either that, or they make discord paid only. You have to remember that nothing discord does is free for them. At all.
Hi there! Your comment has been removed for violating our [community rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/about/rules/):

Nobody in **any company** makes ~~paid features~~ especially if it's a chat platform, they have many ways to make money like from ads and you don't have anything to complain about the ads if they put to. I agree to u/cucumberexpert
Thanks Phil for your understanding. I do believe the paid features are there to help the developers and i understand that. But the intrusiveness of the message takes from the experience and that's where I think the line gets crossed. I've typed out a large document which was removed by the mods for the old "motivating people to use illegal mods" just because I mentioned the program we know about. That's why half the discussion is missing..this document i will post on the discord sucks subreddit, and although I will miss the discussion and then it will seem more like a rant, i feel like it's something that has to be brought out to the public.
I feel like they're over monetizing than giving **all** users a benefit to a new change or a new way of communicating, I hate it they don't balance it, a lot of features introduced with **only on nitro** but no features for free users D:
I thought platforms like Discord are something great because a lot of people use it, Guilded and Facebook Groups offer the perfect experience and give more **value to all free users** but not very popular. I switched back to Facebook and tried on Guilded, it was a better experience than what I get on Discord when it comes to **value**
Not even 10 if you go with a Nitro Classic subscription, which while it skips some of the features it's still got stuff there worth the 5 it costs.
Wasnt the thing with classic that it was the old subscription, while nitro will be updated?
May I asked are you biased? Do you use nitro?
Le fishe au chocolat
Are you sure it's /my/ brain that's filled with tap water and small fish?
Pretty sure everyone is quite sure of that, except you. You are the only one who isn't.
Surely replying with a childish jokey answer to someone looking for a serious discussion isn't smart is it? Insulting people and not engaging in conversation just because you don't agree with their opinion
It's quite the opposite
Simple. There is a limit to who people are willing to teach. If someone is dumb, they can be teached. If someone is ignorant, they cannot. You, are the latter, so I won't try to educate you, I'll just insult you because that's funnier lmao
Edit: And so will the other guy. Before you comment yet again "oH hUrD Ur I aAm TrYiNg To HaVe A dEbATe DiSCuSSsIoN abOuT dIscOrD"
You already have your answer, Simbot already explained perfectly why you are wrong and all you do is ask if he's biased. You have proven yourself to not be worth the effort.
Wow Einstein, how about you take a look at the chunk the mod team so carefully removed because it contained mention of the oh so illegal modification. I typed out reasons why I felt Discord does not care about their consumers, and is turning into a bland, boring company.
And in no way am I ignorant. I've been open for discussion and listening to critical points this entire time. So go ahead, educate me as you will.
I've took my document over to simbot in the DMS with evidence that mods are removing my comments for "inducing usage of illegal modifications" aka mentioning the good old program, and he actually agreed with some points that I made, but I really didn't mind it, everyone has their opinions.
What I am asking of you here is to indeed educate me as you say, this discussion is out of the way as you feel like you want to insult me instead. Tell me what I am doing wrong here and tell me what I should do to improve.
Would be great
This would be so usefully, currently I've just created roles that I use as Placeholder like
To better see through the roles
and servers who do that look messy af.
Welp only people who have access to the settings see them, it's not like anybody gets these roles, they are only for the admins to see have a better se through in the settings, these roles are been excluded from mentioning, but still it would be nicer to have real spacers
Probably thinking of the servers who try to have role categories on the user itself. Which is messy looking. I personally use the same system you've spoken of and it definitely helps with the large amount of roles we have.
I could see this useful, but how would it appear on a user profile?
It should probably just appear in the server settings menu as a means of organisation imo
I just asked as some servers like to show organized roles in user profiles too, so I feel like it could be there too. Or a toggle if you want it to also appear there.
Cake day B)
Happy Cake Day!
Happy cake day brooo!
Happy cake day
This would be awesome
Ass beater role name with pink color
Where do you find all these things? Are you a beta tester or something?
Its a photoshopped image for a suggestion 😄
Perfect example of this for DnD players would be to have a base DnD role and then have your subsequent campaign roles if you run multiple campaigns or have multiple DMs running multiple campaigns. This would be a feature I'd fall in love with immediately
I spent way too long wondering what "Do not Disturb Players" were.
Please I was just telling my friend about this idea. I hope it happens soon so I can delete --------------Members-------- and ---------Staff-------- roles ;(
OH that’s so handy
I think it was mentioned somewhere that this might be mare, can't find source tho
I really want this. I use black roles to section them off and it's not as clean
I wish this was a fucking thing, man.
I REALLY WISH THIS WAS A THING.
I thought I was the only one thinking about this?
Maybe not the ideal solution, but I have created a few roles for the sole purpose of using them as categories of roles below them.
Omg. Discord pls add this!! Its very good idea
Once upon a time I offered something like this on feedback.discord.com , but no one responded:(
