Still waiting for even one famous transgender man.
By - PeterCanTrans
Yeah it is hard to find them. Michael D. Cohen is one. But most are non-binary but people call them trans men, despite them not being trans men (Chella Man and Ian Alexander are two examples of this.) It would be nice to have some actual trans men in the public eye. Hopefully Elliot Page will come out as a binary trans man and actually medically transition so we can have someone who's similar to us in his experience. Representation is important and it's important to have that be accurate.
Edit: I just realized how heavily downvoted this post is (not mine, but OP's) and I'm not sure why. I'd legitimately like to know why people dont want trans men to be represented in media.
Maybe it's the "up the wazoo" part? It's not like anyone has fantastic representation to begin with.
Chase Strangio isn't a household name, unfortunately, but he is a national hero.
I looked him up and I fucking hate that everytime I type in a trans person's name, the first thing that google suggests to me is *what is -insert trans person's real name here- birth name?*
But he looks cool. I like his style.
They're a lawyer, not really the famous I was talking about I guess. Also I think they're non-binary as well.
Why would you assume he’s non-binary? He’s never said so, and at any rate, his experience is very comparable to your average trans man.
They use he/they pronouns.
Pretty sure nonbinary.
They said "he/they pronouns" and say they are going to continue playing their female role which would be extremely difficult while taking hormones so all evidence certainly points twords nonbinary.
Damn that blows
He's both a trans man and non-binary. Is there a specific reason you feel your representation needs to be on the gender binary?
You can't be both a man and not a man that makes no sense. Maybe, just maybe, I would like to see representation of my own gender lol shut the fuck up honestly.
I agree but also I don't really want there to be too many trans men in media because it makes me worry it'd be harder to be stealth lol. But it would be nice to see at least one famous 100% man who is trans for some rep. I just don't feel represented whatsoever in non-binary people.
Yeah the lack of open trans men who are successful in creative fields like acting makes me feel like a subhuman monster who shouldn't even try to pursue my dreams because no one wants to see anything that comes from someone like me.
You posted this a week too late bro! Elliot Page is a trans guy! He identifies as a non-binary man. I know a lot of people are worried he's actually a cis-non-binary type person, so they don't want to get too invested, but Elliot has been working on LGBT documentaries for years, and is extremely familiar with the community. I think its basically a 0% chance he's doing the "non-binary for attention" thing and is actually trans
If they identify as nonbinary, then they are not a trans man, they are nonbinary.
Why you hating on tranpa like this man
You are very rude. I wasn't even talking about representation.
Trans women have some representation but I only ever hear cis people talk about Caitlyn Jenner or the “it’s ma’am” video when making a reference to trans people. We have more representation but representation is about quality, not quantity.
Why? You can be your own role model.
... do you understand what a role model is?
Clearly not. I probably don't even speak English either.
I didn't have any FTM role models. I found heroes of gentle protective masculinity where I could, mostly dead, and was able to save myself with the help of friends.
"Representation" is a mindless slogan of capitalism masquerading as politics.
