Grocery Store, 25th & Wood Ave (about 1915)

There is something so wonderful about storefront / entries like this
The building is still there. Perhaps not for much longer though — it is in sad shape.
WWI poster in the window.
Your username has calhoun and I believe that says "Calhoun Grocer" - I assume that's related?
There is a nice person from Kansas City who posts many of their old photos to r/thewaywewere
Thanks for the shout out! ;-)
A blast from the past. Great to see your name again. When I am in the area, I drive by the spots in your photos. There is notable rehab occurring. Can still find loads of buildings visible before the trees grew.
Indeed. I need to get back to posting some more pictures. I have too many projects going on, haha. Must be really cool to see the before and after look. Hopefully I'll make it out to KCMO someday so I can see my ancestors' stomping grounds.
I love this!
Awesome, very cool for you all to have that history.
Much better than taking your username from John C. Calhoun.
Thats actually OP in the picture.
it is sp00ky season - talking with a ghost on an internet forum, what a way to kick it off
Because of the poster, it would be after US entry into the war, so probably closer to 1918.
Poster was made in 1918. So it’s 1918 at the earliest.
Is this in Kansas City Kansas?

Wow. I grew up in KCK. Right across the street from this is Chelsea Elementary. This store was a candy store in the 60's. Used to go in there nearly everyday!
I grew up down the street on 25th
What is it now?
Maybe an apartment?
Dang I used to live on 17th and Wood Ave it would be cool to see some of the vacant commercial on the strip become renovated to neighborhood amenities again.
Well that's unfortunate. Why couldn't he just name it Safeway?
Where was Wood Street?
[It still exists, and it's in KCK.](https://email@example.com,-94.6570546,3a,75y,126.93h,86.37t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1szhb90aI3Kp%5C_7OUjbmJyyrg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en)
Kool history! Never knew the buildings beginnings.
As a child I was one of the first students to attend the newly built school across the street in 2000. I remember seeing this building everyday. In it’s last years around the 90’s mid 2000’s, I remember this space as something commercial then turned into a makeshift-Apartment.
