lukeflegg

I clearly did something specific one day which totally destroyed my karma and now I can't join or post in some groups. It feels unfair and I don't understand what I'm supposed to learn from it - how can I find what I did wrong? I've always tried to be respectful and civil here.

I_likethestock

Being new on here is sad. Why can’t I comment on anything?

orgits

I have been able to comment on a specific thread. Recently I received a reply to an older post asking me a question. For some reason now (I'm told my Karma is too low) I can not respond to this person's question. Really annoying I can not respond via "reply" to a question asked of me. This secretive karma issue can get on one's nerves and make me want to close my account.

Leading_Math_5039

I am in the same boat. It sucks because i feel i have so much witty banter to give.

Katdevlon

I really love the witty banter on here! I get a lot of laughs reading people’s replies! I’d like to comment in response to some, but because of my no karma situation, I’m unable to. 🤷🏻‍♀️

honeylattea

what is witty banter?

Katdevlon

Is this Quora? heh heh

SkydancerOne

Not sure my banter would considered witty but perhaps I can at least get a one liner in now and then. I have read some hilarious responses on the forum. There are opportunities to help others with information but when I comment I get the "go away you have no karma" response. Bummer but I get why it's on the platform.

Katdevlon

👆🏼E x a c t l y .

Smooth-Adeptness-954

I feel this. It's complicated when sarcasm and wit is your second language and you just can't share the wealth with anyone. I trust we'll get there eventually though..

_gronklegob

I have a similar problem, so my friend had linked me to a post and I had never been on reddit before so I said a really rude thing to this guys comment but now that I realize that reddit isn't just "we hate fortnite, pewdiepie ftw" people I regret it. Where can I post so I can recover?

immortalnachi

Just engage in conversations, be kind and post good stuff if you can, if you wanna farm check out the guides on how to get karma

Tintin4real

Buts its difficult when being engaged in stuff and discussions requires a certain amount of Karma.

sahaaj07

But some groups on reddit req 500 comment karma, so what do we do about them?

Dr-Funkyerdoder

This is the way

LimitlessDreamLife

Been there. This is a new account and I'm trying to learn Reddit again

spoonpicker

Same, I just made my account and I can’t post in the community that I want to take part in, it’s super frustrating

Pack517

Same here lol. I only need 5 :)

Yung__joe

I’m having the same exact problem and I don’t even know how to look up how much karma I have

beachbumming69

I’ve been try to post on some places and keep getting you don’t have enough Karma fuck off and come back when you have ... get a life lol

Frenzied_Yak

Gotta love the catch-22. Kind of like when entry level jobs require at least 2 years of full-time experience to apply.

Makeitmultiply

Or it’s like when you’re young and trying to get a credit card and every bank rejects you because you don’t have enough “credit”. How are you supposed to build a credit profile if none of the lenders take a chance on you and all tell you to kick rocks.

Traditional-Leader54

Exactly which is quite ironic when I can’t post on the wall street bets subreddit that’s supposed to be about fighting against the elitist 1%.

Makeitmultiply

Well and all the OG users have been running their mouths about the newbies just posting useless garbage and how the mods have been deleting useful posts- I’m like rude to those of us that are new that have intelligent topics to add to the discussion I found another Reddit of a topic I was interested in and got my karma points there and now I can post to WSB

Euklid8

How can I get karma points if all the subreddits I want to participate in, have Karma requirements? I cant post neither comment in any of them. Im new

RollerCoasterPilot

I agree with you, restricting commenting based on karma is pointless and dumb. Unfortunately, you'll have to comment in other places where you can, get a few upvotes that way, and come back once you have enough. You shouldn't need more than 20 comment karma to post in most places, and 20 is nothing. Just be original, don't ask for karma, and try to fit in.

kenai_gntkaoa

ugh, this is a pain

AnimeWarGod

So true

Kingaplg8

Right there with ya buddy! They need to come up with another way of gaining karma. Like having an account for an x amount of time gives you an x amount of karma. This gives karma to those who have been around awhile and prevents new spam users from being annoying.

Traditional-Leader54

How about you get karma when you upvote someone else’s comments? That would make sense and be true to what karma really means.

honeylattea

yeah, i agree

mmkthxbye

This is literally FAQ what

RollerCoasterPilot

It's not a post, so it's fine

spoonpicker

“Just be cool”.... got it

SpenceOnTheFence

I just wanted to post “RIP Harambe 🦍👼 never forget” but I don’t have enough Karma. It’s not right.

gowelbag

I'm having the same issue. Any thread that I'm interested in has these stupid requirements. Getting sick of it.

RollerCoasterPilot

Do it out of spite, if all else fails.

INTPj

it IS ridiculous...

Straight_Ad6565

Completely, especially if you have the knowledge to help someone within that specific sub.

Tintin4real

Yes, its a very closed community - and its diffifult becoming a part of the community without enough Karma.

Electronic_Pin_1015

Better yet, allow low Karma, but accounts with a min age (we usually start as lurkers anyway) the chance to post. If it gets downvoted, violates the mod rules, or crapped on for being a garbage post, then they have to go build their Karma up to a certain level before they can post again. If it fits, then it also builds their Karma.

Fundamentals-802

Try reading the faq section at the top of this sub.

Chemical_Ad7629

That’s what I’m sayin!

Weenie_Hut_Juni0r

Agreed!

OmegaMan73

Yeah I don't understand either. I don't want to post on topics I am not interested in just to get karma.

remember-sunshine

Exactly. I just signed up and the only subreddit I want to comment on requires 100 Karma? It's like, what? I'm old school back in the days of TWoP. where you join and start commenting and moderators ban who breaks the rules. Back to Twitter I guess, because this karma concept is just ridiculous. If you keep new users out for not having enough karma whatever, you're not going to get new users in your subreddit and just keep the old standbys in a classic circle jerk. Fun.

OmegaMan73

It's a money grab.

Small_foot_beachbum

I agree. I've now come here to figure out karma. So hello!

Bullhouse13

hello.... welcome to the upside down world of Karma :)

Spikolli

Welcome to the same thing I am doing. I’m also not a cat.

Makeitmultiply

Talk about colossal waste of time- though I do appreciate rules to limit bot spamming and keep junk misinformation posting to a minimum. Drives me nuts though when I see profiles that are super young like mine who are able to comment back on topics I’m interested in. I guess that serves me right for not further digging into the semantics of karma guidelines. Who thought Reddit commenting would require a PhD in formatting.

blessednenus3r

This absolutely this. The main reason I even still use reddit is because I found indie perfumes through a sub, I have so many to sell and my old account was good to go but now I can’t really post anywhere about anything and I’ve been on it for over a month trying. If I comment the way I want to most places I just get ignored or worse! downvoted lol. It kinda begs the question what is the point if you won’t be allowed to participate for months until you meet the minimum? All I fuckin wanna do is buy and sell these indie perfumes until I get bored of it, I guess that day is coming sooner. Can’t even post my ridiculously huge collection like I want to on the sub.

Bullhouse13

I am in the same boat. Been on long enough, but don't have enough Karma in the subreddit groups. What is the easiest way to get more so that I can post legit questions on finance boards? TIA

fuckupdafty

Get your friends to make reddit accounts and just get them to grant you updoots.

2dopekilla2

You have to have friends first 🙁

fuckupdafty

☹️🥺🤗

Revolutionary_Log69

Lmao

gowelbag

So true. That's funny.

wiverride

Gotta get them reddit buds moving.....I guess. Also, new and unable to comment a stock index to the pennystocks subreddit.....anyway. Good luck to you as well.

Hour_Junket4288

It's worse than trying to get a job that requires experience in the field

bullshitusernames

How can one get karma if there is a karma requirement preventing me from posting anything? I feel as though I’m stuck in a loop as a lurker.

MrJoeJam

Here fort the karma

Trichomy

Do me too

dcz1703

Same here

Tall-Girl-2016

I’m trying to ask questions in some of the threads and I can’t! Because I need karma! What’s the point of going onto Reddit to get your questions answered if you can’t even ask the question

ZombieMuffintop2021

Agreed!

Cool-Pomegranate-012

I feel like a lurker extraordinaire

stcruz23

What amount of Karma is pretty decent?

RollerCoasterPilot

1k combined post and comment karma will let you post in most places.

sikenoway

If I post, will that take away a The amount of karma needed to post?

RollerCoasterPilot

Nope! Once you have karma, it's there to stay, unless you get downvoted.

SystmOfaDownsyndrom

What if people go around downvoting noobs for fun?

RollerCoasterPilot

I don't think that's very common, since you'd have to _really_ go out of your way to do that. In addition to that, excessive downvoting is a good way to get shadowbanned.

Owlproof

What's shadowbanned?

everythingabtoatmeal

I’m thinking it might be similar to when you post something but it doesn’t show up for anyone but you. This is late so you prob don’t even need it anymore but yeah.

SystmOfaDownsyndrom

Thanks

qwik5495

Solid question, I was wondering that as well

Ok_Entrepreneur3072

I got a question. Why do they have me automatically join an r/announcements group but not an r/karma group? Undersranding karma seems a little more important then announcements to me. I thank you for the information and I hope we can still be friends. Yolo!

mmkthxbye

r/announcements is by Reddit themselves. r/karma is by users like you

Ok_Entrepreneur3072

Thank you. Well then r/karma should be part of the welcoming package. Or perhaps on a list of useful pages sent to my email. I was extremely confused for 3 days with no link to help me. These guys should get more credit.

Come_Quickly_Comrade

How do I gain post karma? It sounds like the only way to get that is by posting, but everytime I try to do that on a subreddit, my post gets removed because I dont have enough post karma

honeylattea

i feel you!

[deleted]

RollerCoasterPilot

You're welcome to suggest improvements and updates.

ParketSimon

You’re outdated

BetFew5292

So if I comment on posts I get karma huh?

RollerCoasterPilot

Only if you get upvotes.

stcruz23

How long does it usually take to gain a decent amount of Karma?

RollerCoasterPilot

Anywhere from a day to several years, depending on how active you are and what you do.

Agile-Cup206

why am i not gaining karma for commenting on posts? one of the groups i’m trying to get in won’t accept me unless i have 10 comment karma

[deleted]

Personally, I think that posts in the political subreddits shouldn't count against your karma. I made two or three responses to something that was anti Trump and got nailed with negatives. Mind you, I wasn't even supporting him or going against what was posted completely. Just a different take and now I'm thinking about getting a new account.

Soberdonkey69

I think r politics is a cess pool

kcr2006

Yeah, staying away from political posts will only help.

jim-cramer

You got impeached 🤣

travisehill3

Does your system of karma only allow for certain confirmation bias on pages? Do you feel that if the topic is wrong or incorrect in it's nature, yet you only let people post who will be upvoted and agreed with, then are you simply pouring gasoline on a flame?

mmkthxbye

Bias does happen yes. Also, it's not "our system of karma". We're users like you, not employees of Reddit.

travisehill3

Man, that's really a bummer. Seems like this "karma" system would really promote division amongst certain groups of people. I think you can understand what I mean by that.

mmkthxbye

Yeah, but the idea of subreddits and localised communities already give a sense of division so, I doubt the karma system matters

fourgriffs1

Hell I went from 1 karma to 18. Not sure how. I gave away a silver coin that I won for free. My comment was still deleted. I may be to old for this shit. 59 lol

nzkiwithunder

I'm really trying to post some pictures(multiple) of my labrador on a specific reddit, do I need more karmas to be able to post multiple pics at once? Also I've been trying to get some karma by comments, but do those help me with posting? TIA

RollerCoasterPilot

>do I need more karma to be able to post multiple pics at once? I can't give you a definite answer on that one. I can tell you that it's definitely possible to set up a subreddit that way, but whether it's actually the case or not depends on the subreddit and how the mods have it set up. >Also I've been trying to get some karma by comments, but do those help me with posting? That'll help you post on subreddits that require comment karma, yes.

Sniperpride

So I used to post in rpolitics (my first mistake) where I was downvoted into oblivion for supporting Biden during the time when it was viewed as unpopular (Bernie bros). I accumulated-100 comment karma and it has been stuck that way for months now. I’ve been posting and contributing to other subs now to try to get it back up buts it’s not budging. Do I just have to start a new account or will it come back?

RollerCoasterPilot

It'll come back, as long as you keep participating. I recommend taking a break from the political side of reddit, maybe permanently.

Sniperpride

Thanks, and I agree.

Darrlicious

I saw someone post in another sub that they want to get to X karma So they can “cash out”. What does that mean?

RollerCoasterPilot

Probably just being able to post in X place.

DBA_DesertBlueAngel

I'm new can you help me understand why I couldn't post right after I hit submit?

RollerCoasterPilot

What do you mean?

YoGuyItsDooling

How do I check my current karma level?

mmkthxbye

If you're on mobile, click your icon in the top left corner. If you're on desktop, it should be in the top right corner.

YoGuyItsDooling

Thanks

JakeOfAllTrades777

⚠️ So many people won't do their own DD and just want to be told what to do. Remember, if you want more than the majority then why in the world would you take advice from those same people? Do your own DD! Cheers! 🍻

RollerCoasterPilot

Tf is DD?

JakeOfAllTrades777

Due diligence

RollerCoasterPilot

And how is that relevant here?

Aware_Presentation26

How do you find subs that don’t have restrictions? All of the subs that I have a genuine interest in has these restrictions. I can’t win right now. I need feedback now not 3 months from now when the information will be no longer needed. Jeez. 😔

Aware_Presentation26

Where can I find a subreddit’s karma requirements in advance instead receiving the automod notifications?

RollerCoasterPilot

You can't.

KeyDiscipline9521

I am new to Reddit/social media in general. It’s never been my thing. Reddit has been the hardest to learn. It’s not like most other platforms. That’s why I like it😂 But I’m confused about karma. Is it like points. Do you just get them for being upvoted? Do awards impact karma? And a lot of the subreddits I’ve joined have a minimum karma requirement before being able to post or comment. How do I get karma if I can’t post? Seems like new users are punished?

RollerCoasterPilot

Read the post.

oldbailey_newbird

I'm really new to commenting on Reddit. Recently I made a comment which got 2 up votes, no down votes, and somehow my comment ended up at -2 karma? I don't understand, any insight?

RollerCoasterPilot

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. What do you mean by "my comment ended up at -2 karma"?

oldbailey_newbird

It's exactly that, when viewing my comment, the upvote button is red as if I'd been upvoted but it shows a -2.

crypto-roadkill

I have been posting on a sub for 2 months now, I never received any upvotes, I just thought no one liked any of my comments, then I find out you need Karma to post there. So none of my comments have shown up for the general sub to view. LOL It would be nice to have a pop up or something, because my comments showed up on my view but not the subs! I am an IT idiot!

archimedes7685

I commented something I thought was funny about driving and got destroyed. Now I feel like I'm on ice posting anywhere. Any advice to not get down voted more?

RollerCoasterPilot

Go with the flow, until you're in the clear.

sonicblu_orange

How do I get comment karma if AI mod keeps removing because I don't have any. Seems circular to me

RollerCoasterPilot

Find subs where that doesn't happen.

optimedialand

I Post a comment Here ... Not only to get Karma by upvote BUT I TAKE IT BRO:-) ... also i have quastion- because i don‘t know German People using reddit.... WHY DOE‘S THE TEXT CHANGE THE SCRIPT (LETTERS) WHEN I WRITE AN EMOTICON ... the Text After/behind the text——-> 🥳 this is what i mean!

RollerCoasterPilot

I have no idea what you're talking about, but I guess the moral of the story is, don't use emoticons. Also, one of our mods is German.

WorkingFI

If Karma is supposed to show others how trustworthy you are and much you contribute to the community, how come you don't see the karma listed next to other users names when they post? (Let me know if I misunderstood) "Reddit as a whole will trust you more if you have more of it"

RollerCoasterPilot

All you have to do is mouse over their name, and it'll show up.

Own-Abbreviations-52

Does it take long time to collect all the karma?

RollerCoasterPilot

Depends how much time you put in.

c-braz

How much karma do I need to have an opinion?

mmkthxbye

The karma restriction for subreddits vary, but 500 should allow you to post in a decent number of subs

NovelProfessional856

Where do I see karma requirements on subreddits? Thank you for your help :)

RollerCoasterPilot

If it's not disclosed directly by the moderators, it's not public information. You can ask them via modmail, but some subs will mute you for that (you can usually tell which ones, as they will warn you not to ask about the karma threshold.)

NovelProfessional856

Thank you! I will try that.

Fundamentals-802

I’ve been dealing with my comments being deleted as I don’t have enough karma yet, but when I look at my profile, it shows I have 42 karma. My comments have been (and this is as far as I know) in places that require 10 days and 10 karma to comment. Both thresholds I have achieved. Is the bot response a generic response from the bot? I’m guessing that the sub I’m interested in has a higher threshold of karma. Is there a way to figure out what the threshold is?

RollerCoasterPilot

If it's not disclosed directly by the moderators, it's not public information. You can ask them via modmail, but some subs will mute you for that (you can usually tell which ones, as they will warn you not to ask about the karma threshold.)

Fundamentals-802

Thank you for your response. I was not aware that there was even a mail feature available on the app. Took me a week of digging around the app just to find my profile information 🤦‍♂️😂.

SpaceBound778

Thank you! Do I get credited any karma for voting, as an incentive to spread Karma?

RollerCoasterPilot

No

[deleted]

I made a subreddit even though my account is 13 days old, how?

RollerCoasterPilot

Thanks for the info. We'll revise this post immediately.

2A_Finisher

What are you doing to prevent trolls who run around downvoting things as a group? That seems to be a fairly significant issue based on observations over time.

RollerCoasterPilot

I think you'll find that's less of an issue than it may seem. However, the accounts that actually do that usually get shadowbanned.

2A_Finisher

Fair enough. I suppose if you want "karma" you better march in lockstep with the people (or bots, as the case may be) in the particular group/sub that you want to talk in. Kinda counterproductive IMO... seems to promote an echo chamber situation... but whatever... it's reddit lol

RollerCoasterPilot

I think it's important to point out that it's individual subreddits that can be echo chambers, not the entire site.

SRB72

Why no one will really say which subs to get in to to earn karma when you have no karma to start with??? Is it a big secret???

Dragon22wastaken

joined here cuz just got a post deleted due to my low karma-- allkarmamatters -- can we see our karma? I know I can be snarky-- but isn't that valued here??

Original_Run8120

It seems the karma required to post changes... I've posted in a couple of places and then went back to respond to a response and couldn't post because they changed the requirement.. how is that beneficial to the community??

RollerCoasterPilot

The moderators can change it at their discretion. It's beneficial in that it prevents less-experienced users from posting low-effort or irrelevant content until they've been around for a little while and seen how things work, what's acceptable, and what isn't. >respond to a response Also, what? What do responses have to do with posting? Do you mean commenting?

Original_Run8120

ah yes, just as this, respond to a comment, or comment to a commend to a comment

gemy1

Restricting comments based on karma is ridiculous, How can I get the comment karma points if I am not allowed to comment in the first place?

RollerCoasterPilot

I couldn't agree more.

Wieser3000

Absolutely. Here for more than a month mainly for reading but if I want to comment something on other subs I get not through because my „opinion“ remains blocked... Not easy for Rockies.

SubjectAd6237

Joined Reddit a month ago but still can’t make comments in the post I want

RollerCoasterPilot

You're doing things right. Keep commenting, it may take some time.

Ok_Calligrapher1712

How do I get 500 karma need help

RollerCoasterPilot

The same way you get any other amount of karma. Read this post for more info.

WorkTooMuch98

I'm new to Reddit, and can't seem to engage in the groups that intrigued my interest in joining. How in the heck does one earn Karma if they can't engage and get a warning everytind they comment?

TheeGentlemanBastard

How does one accrue karma if you can’t comment without karma.

90bills

There are subreddits where there is no karma limit to make posts or comment on posts.

Finansalanaliz

Is there anywhere I can see the karma requirements for the comment. Because each time I have commented, it is deleted due to karma.

90bills

When a subreddit has a minimum karma limit to post, is that an accumulation of all your karma, including comment, award and post? Or is it just your post karma? Thank you for the help!

RollerCoasterPilot

Generally post karma, comment karma, or a combination of the two.

90bills

Awesome, thank you for the quick reply!

Zealousideal_Buy2246

I want to make sure I’ve read the above post correctly. If your post is over a day old you will receive less Karma?

RollerCoasterPilot

Correct, that post will no longer earn karma even if upvoted.

Zealousideal_Buy2246

Thank you

PooveyFarmsRacer

Is something going on with karma, Old Reddit, and the RES plug-in? saw a weird fluctuation in my comment karma briefly (minus ~30 all at once, like an old comment was deleted somewhere?), and then RES displayed 1 link karma and 0 comment karma on my 8-year-old account, but the karma points and upvotes are still there on my old comments.

Luxniom

Looks like it fixed itself right now

PooveyFarmsRacer

oh so it has. guess it was just a hiccup in the system. thanks for answering quickly!

Gordon_Glass

Can Reddit's karma system be said to be supportive of critical thinking, when we note that posting to popular subreddits like r/cryptocurrency requires 500 comment karma; and that comment karma has to be earned elsewhere first, by writing what people want to hear (ie. enough to upvote it)?

Cashmyra

I love the karma system. It's just a bit overwhelming and difficult in the beginning. I finally made a Reddit account for a few specific groups. It makes sense that I have to have an account for a certain amount of days in order to post something. I think a lot of karma makes you credible. The downside is that I now have to post amazing posts on different topics. Like, get credible on one thing so you can finally contribute on another topic?

TexasJohn19xx

If I am new to reddit and am joined to a subgroup that requires some level of Karma to comment, will I be able to comment (or post) with less Karma because I have been a member for some time, or is it only based upon Karma points and time as a member does not matter? Thank you.

RollerCoasterPilot

Both are factors on their own.

TexasJohn19xx

What happens when a comment or post gets removed by u/AutoModerator for lack of Karma? Can I get it reinstated? Can I go to the removal notice message, hit reply and send a message indicating it is worthwhile post and get a real person (Moderator) to look at it and decide it is OK and un-remove it or something? I.e. a way to appeal the removal? Not just about Karma, but really about making useful and meaningful posts if one has low Karma.

mmkthxbye

If your post/comment is removed due to a lack of karma, appealing most likely won't make a difference. But if you would like to appeal for it to be reinstated, you would have to message the mods.

TexasJohn19xx

Thank you. If I write a moderator (I see I can find them on the home page of a sub-reddit) do I write to a pool of them or do I pick one and message him? Do I send a link to a specific comment or ask him to review mine in general (I am sure mods can find them from my ID when I write) and reinstate some (all)? I am new to reddit but not new on this earth, and have knowledge to contribute and encourage others. Also not big on meaningless posts like "Go GME ..." etc. Thanks again.

mmkthxbye

There's a modmail button, it has the icon of an envelope. That sends a message to the whole mod team and anyone who's a mod can see it and respond. I would advise you not to personally message one mod as they tend to dislike that. It's good to send a link to the comment/post you want to be reviewed, makes it easier for the mods to see.

TexasJohn19xx

OK - Now I see the modmail button. It was way off screen when I was looking at all the threads and replying. Thank you for the advice.

OmegaMan73

Purchase some reddit coins then award users. Problem solved.

RollerCoasterPilot

Correct. Although if you're spending money just to get fake internet points, you need to sit down and think your life over. ^(Also, award karma doesn't help you with karma thresholds)

OmegaMan73

$5.00 didn't break my bank.

RollerCoasterPilot

It's still kinda sad.

tanyamamdy

Pro tip, don’t criticize Antifa in anyway otherwise you’ll get dog piled and get negative 95 Karma like me.

Cheltboii

does commenting increase karma

Cheltboii

if so i will keep commenting as i keep gettingrejectd by threads for having low karma and it is really annoying
