My Ma3 command wing set up.
By - jemby1103
I believe you were the one that told me to get it, and I greatly appreciate it I am loving it so far.
What do you use the stream deck for?
It has some pre defined colors and it has a whole and helps when creating effects. I bought a file from [here](https://fiets.de/course/gma3-stream-deck/). I opted to get that instead of the additional fader wing due to the price difference but so far it’s been good only had the whole thing for 4 days and need to use everything more to see how my workflow changes.
This is awesome
Yellowstone club! I have spent some cruel winters on construction sites up there.
Lol 😂 you right
It took me way too long to realize that building on the right was a chairlift and not some alien ship set piece
What type of touchscreens are those? Love the clean setup. Also ibterested in the streamdeck
The monitors are Hanns.G HT225HPB.
The stream deck has some cool features I found a file someone was selling and have been using it for ever thing. The website I got the file from can be found [here.](https://fiets.de/course/gma3-stream-deck/)
Slick setup, about to get ours installed at the venue. (I ‘borrowed’ it to play with on my dining table for a bit, 😂)
How’s the stream deck file work with MA3? that’s intriguing.
There are a few applications you need download it for it to work properly but I’ve commented prior about the file.
Ok I’ll go digging :) thanks!
How do you like the screens and touchscreen on them? What was the price?
I actually really like them so far. I just got the whole thing the other day so I need more time with it. As for the price I don’t know due to the fact it came with a computer on an add on when purchasing the case.
I can only operate those in my dreams. I’m not even an LD or work with lighting or entertainment
But you can still learn how if you want! MA lighting has all of their software free to use! It’s honestly a great business model, you can 1000% learn to make a 3D tendered timecode show if you felt like it. There’s a ton of YouTube tutorials and the online manual is fantastic. It’s all more accessible than you may think!
Woah, didn’t know they offered the software free, I should certainly look into it
Hell yeah dude!!! It’s honestly a wonderful business model. I was able to learnMA2 for free in my dorm room before ever touching an MA console, and now I use MA2/3 almost every night for work! They make their money off the hardware, which VERY quickly becomes 10’s of thousands of dollars, but that’s what venues and budgets are for. It keeps the door open for new programmers to learn, and then people try to work on their favorite console so they keep growing the user base because that requires rental shops to stock consoles. It’s a strange and wonderful circle of life lmao
If you’re just getting started though I would recommend Chamsys over MA, but you can download both and choose for yourself. I’m a MA fanboy and professional user but that console is a goddamn spaceship cockpit to learn. It was like learning from scratch despite my experience with a number of consoles. The whole system is built with an insane amount of flexibility and customization which is amazing when you learn it, but Chamsys by comparison you input “these lights do this thing” and it just works. It’s like 80% of the functionality with 20% of the effort. People use Chamsys on festivals to be clear, that last 20% functionality is comprised of features I don’t think you’d ever touch nor need until you’re getting into rig automation and procedural data workflows, and I’m JUST getting into those after 4-5 years on MA professionally myself
Very interesting, i best dabble in both sometime
Could you tell me, if MA3 works with cheap DMX dongles too? The website says, that MA3 enables the DMX output within the MA3 onPC solutions. Does that mean only their hardware works? I’ve just started to learn a bit DMX, so I only have an incredibly cheap DMX dongle from Amazon
This is what I mean by hardware. There is no cheap dongle for MA in particular. I used MA dot2 with an enttec for a while but that’s not even remotely close to MA3 in terms of functionality. The software is free to use but hardware is gonna be thousands. Other consoles like Chamsys give you a free universe btw
It’s not that expensive really. You can buy an MA3 node for $1,700. Pair it with onPC, some touchscreens, and some MIDI controllers like an APC 40 mk2. All in for maybe $3,000. I’m not sure I’d even like the console. My screens are way bigger and higher resolution. My computer is much faster. And I use 3 MIDI controllers and have setup all the important hardkeys like copy, move, select, assign, off, etc., on my midi controllers. Which I can configure and reconfigure any way I want. I set it up with a small rig in my garage with some movers, pixel lights, and pars and I’m having the time of my life! When it’s time for the road, I have a dual screen Zenbook and with plenty of room for the executors I need for the show.
The beauty of MA is you can setup an elaborate crazy programming rig for design and practice with multiple monitors and midi devices, then use the same showfile on your laptop and all you have to do is set up playbacks on screens 4 and 5 and put them on your second screen on the Zenbook. A laptop plus a node is really all you need for a pretty decent sized show. The scalability and customization is what makes MA the industry standard.
The new faders on the 3 are godly. My single biggest issues is how pressure on the MA2 faders makes them have more resistance, but these feel like they don’t have a motor but still move
Perfect location for "The Shining: The Musical".

How are you liking the MA3 software so far?
So far so good! I am coming from etc and I found the transition easy ish. I took the MA3 class ACT entertainment offers and that helps vastly. I never got into ma2 so I don’t have as many hold ups as others do.
That’s good to know. I’m in a similar boat coming from ETC and never working with MA2. I currently am learning hog because I have a nomad, but I’m super curious about MA3. Is there anything that you found to be a really rough transition coming from ETC?
I think the thing I still struggle with is effects. K also did a few stuff on the hog and honestly really didn’t like it. My company has a hog and hedgehog and I’ve used both and I feel they just don’t compare to this. There is a nice feature I have found built in to the ma3 software. It’s a macro that has pre built in effects that I can build off of. (It’s called import predefined phaser)
That’s neat. I think I’m going to start looking into MA3 now. If anything, just to become more familiar with it.
I few YouTube channels I recommend is
Also happy cake day!
And if you have any questions feel free to Dm me.
I’m already subbed to Christian Jackson, but I will definitely check out the others. Thanks!
Is this the yellowstone club?
How much did that entire setup run you if you don't mind? Looking into something very similar.
Total around 10k unfortunately but I’m doing it as a 5+ year investment
How much of that was the santosom stuff? I've got a deal lined up for a 3 wing already.
Around 4K with shipping and custom taxes
