LifeLabs, union come to tentative agreement, averting further job action
By - cyclinginvancouver
The union had a big rally yesterday in Burnaby - a few hundred members were there - I’m sure that sent a message to LifeLabs that they were united in the threat to strike.
Glad to see this settled.
This news is definitely a relief.
Yay unions! \\o/
The employer super low balled them from the start, slap to the face with 97 percent of members voted to strike. I wonder what this tentative agreement looks like
I feel for those workers. I need regular blood tests and over the last 10 years I've noticed the lab workers become more hurried, and stressed looking. They installed the new booking system, got rid of drop ins at most sites, and I think they are being allocated a very limited time to handle each client now.
This last year, especially since most offices went to booking only, things got bad quite quickly: twice they forgot to draw blood for one of my tests, once they forgot to swab with alcohol (clean the blood draw site).
I can see the stress of these "efficiencies" and likely the added stress COVID and wearing PPE for 8 hours has made their lives worse. I hope the negotiation makes things better.
